I have a lone peak razor LA mag cut for UL DBM 3.95 coal. I want to keep it at 24in barrel and was originally set on the 28 nosler because I have all of the components adg n570 195s. Now I'm contemplating a 338 rum or edge but couldn't run my suppressor, maybe a 300 PRC or 30-28 nosler?

I reload so no issues there - what's everyone's thoughts

I picked up a 300 PRC I had built on Saturday. I had intended on building it on the UM DBM but ended up with an Anti X action so it wouldn't work. I sold the bottom metal but still have two brand new 3.95" mags if you're are interested PM me. For what it's worth I like that Bottom metal and the mags just didn't work out and had to go with the M5.

I had a long action defiance tenacity sitting here. I wasn't sure what to build either. Decided to go 338 RUM. Mainly because I don't have anything in 338. It will have a 23" barrel and shoot a copper or bonded bullet of some sort. From what I've seen the 338 RUM sounds like a winner. Unfortunate that you can't use your suppressor. But if you're ok running a brake then go with the RUM.

Howdy, I didn't see 300RUM. So if I had to choose from the 3 you have listed, it would be 30 Nosler. Your components will match the 30Nos. Hope this helps. 🤓

What do you want to be able to do with the gun? How far, shoot what animals, etc.

This boils down to your personal preference and intended purpose. If you want to be able to use your suppressor, build a chambering that is rated for it.

The gun would be for elk and larger size game and for shooting let's call it 150 rounds a year. I have a 300wm 6.5-284 308 and a 7 rem mag. This is where the 338 comes in for me to fill the gap at the end with a 338

I think you just answered your own question. The edge would be perfect for what you're wanting to do. You may consider the 338RUM if your shooting monos.

What does COAL look like on the 338 RUM? Do I need a longer throat from SAAMI?

Throat would be your choice on how you want to set it up. The edge has a case length of 2.850" and the RUM is 2.760", with the RUM you'll be able seat longer. If you want max performance, you should look into the +P Edge that Defensive Edge builds.
