Seriously? lol I seriously just bought the Element in 300 win today. I asked them to do a shorter barrel when I first bought it and they said no.

I currently don't have a con on the bighorn origins. They do exactly what I want in an action, for the reasons mentioned above. Prefit barrels are available, Remington 700 stocks and triggers, etc. I've sold 2 defiance actions and kept the origins.
I just talked to them a couple days ago on the phone and at the Sheep Show in Reno and that is what they said. Plus it's on their website. You have to send them your rifle to do it but the cost includes the GS work and everything.

Yeah, I should have asked them again if I could custom order it before I bought it. After taxes you're already close to 2,000 then 550 for a barrel plus shipping. Youre now at 2500 or so for a ph2. Might as well just get the Element for 2700 and be done with it. On the plus side I found out if you buy from scheels in Montana there is no sales tax so you can just have them ship any gun to your local scheels and save a couple hundred dollars. I'm just going to keep my ph2 until I know the Element shoots as good or better.
I had this same thought in mind so I decided on the element above the ph2, the custom build or the tikka semi-custom. Now I'm just waiting for the call from Scheels for it to be in stock in 7prc.

Not sure what camo pattern you want but they told me the scheels in Montana I went through was the only scheels to have a 300 win in mountain shadow. I would imagine 7 prc is going to be even harder to find but maybe they could do a search of all scheels locations if they haven't already.
They are being made as we speak. Sounded like within the next 30 days they should start showing up. I'm number 2 on the list at my local scheels and as much as I like the sound of no tax vs our sub 9% here I'd bet those in Montana are spoken for already.

Yeah, you are probably right. Sounds like a lot of people are leaning towards the 7prc

BiggBeans,to clarify,my cons were sarcastic.I don't really see many cons at all.
My smith,T&D by trade, is long time friend,but he is a very busy one man shop,but he can fit in small machining jobs for me.He's chambering and threading a couple of prefit for savages for me this week.If I was to wait for a full build,4,6,8 months,who knows.I've been switching barrels on savages before prefits showed up on the internet,maybe berfore the internet itself.
I can change from a an 18" 25 cm to a 17" 28 nosler on a Savage PTA SP'S under an hour.Sometimes less,if tools, parts don't walk off.
To clarify,thats removing and replacing stock,scope, mounts,barrel,bolt head and nut.I also do my own remages, but remys can require more smith work.Remages take little more patience ,as the Savages and Orgins have a pin on recoil lug,slot in the reciever.The Orgin justs make all of the above easier,plus being able to use remington stocks , triggers etc.
Tikka, I have left hand Tikka in 22-250, locally I can get more $ out of it than retail and it's my everyday truck, coyote calling gun, still holding 1/2 ish moa.I look at and wished it was tad bigger.I want to do a 6mm ackley and or 25 saum for a hunting and target rifle.6 AI and 25saum are very hard on barrels.In a year I'd be swithcing again.What is the bullet and brass supply in a year?If doing a Tikka,I would just buy the action,but ,hard to find Lh Tikka action,a bit pricey.If using my 22-250,LH bolt is $300-$400 or my smith will open mine up for nothing,but if I ever go back to .473.378,buy bolts plus ,stock,trigger,rabbit hole.
Tikka pro's: uses same action length, change mags,change or mill bolt stop and will accept nut and shoulder prefits.So to me an DIY Orgin build for a lefty makes more sense than using a complete donor rifle. A person with some decent shop skills can do it. With a little help from a smith or machinist, do it.

Man I love my gunsmith. I just got back my Weatherby Vanguard from him, full action bedded in a Boyd's stock. He builds bench rest as well as hunting rifles. He charged me $80.00 and gave me a new container of the 1lb Devcon kits. He is a keeper. It's just a well liked side hobby for him and not his income source.
Yes, the barrel length plus the muzzle brake is the one thing that worries me. I bought it last year and haven't even hunted with it yet. Heck, I've been so busy I haven't even finished a full load workup with it. Started out using Magnum which obviously shot really well, but this is my out of state hunting rifle and I was waiting to get my hands on some 4831SC because I wanted a temp stable powder for those hunts.

I think I will like the elements 22 inch barrel much better. The ph2 should come with a 24 max in my opinion.
I was curious about the weight of the ph2 LA with a 22" bbl so I asked when I saw them at Sheep Show but they didn't know. I'm sure it's not element light but imagine it's an improvement of the 7.1lbs with the 26" bbl
