What ever happened to the WSSM caliber? I rarely ever see anything mentioned about them and ammo is hard to find.

Was it just a passing "AR" caliber round? I have a custom AR in 243WSSM somewhere in the back of one of my safes.

Thick Case Walls led to excessive bolt thrust with hot load's, hard extraction ect ect ect.

Poor case design
Poor reloading components availability
Expensive when you did find brass .

Poor brass from probably not the best layed out design. Rifles were not twisted for where the market went. The 243 wssm really didn't do anything the 243 couldn't do, the 25 caliber had minimal success in certain areas but not much. The 223 was and still is one of the fastest ever made 223 factory rounds. But was labeled as a barrel burner back before that was cool, and wasn't twisted well for bullet weights it's boiler room was setup for.

Still love mine.

A HS Precision. 300wsm has been my go to rifle for 23 years. Acquired a .270 wsm last year. Haven't been able to shoot it yet due to lack of component availability. Love the feel of both for mountain hunting.

WSM and WSSM are two different families. The WSM family has fared much better over the years.

The 243 WSSM had a niche putting a real mid more game round in an AR15 but the others struggled to find real niches. Really unique looking however.

If the compact short barreled suppressor host trend continues, and they iron out brass. I could see them catching on with that crowd, hey it would be more innovative than the 6.8 western...

I'm giving serious thought to building a bolt action 25WSSM in a fast twist to shoot 135s from a short action AICS magazine. Should make for a 3000+ fps match rifle or hunting rifle, depending on the barrel length.

Many years ago, I was a wizzard with the 243WSSM in an AR platform and I've always wanted to do it again.

Ammo seems non existant. I have a Model 70 Coyote in one i got when first introduced. It shoots the 95 gr bst that comes in the black factory ammo box from WW really well. I have not shot the thing in many years though.
