Whats the cartridge you LOVE to HATE?

Pressed reply too soon.

Also, please cut up all your 300 Win Mags bit save toe action's to repurpose into something asctually useful.
Bit save toe action's? Spoken exactly as might be expected from someone who hates the .300 win mag! 🤣

Just messing with ya. "Save those actions"?

I love my .300 Winnie and, as articulated earlier, the 7mm rem mag is a turd haha.

But worse than any of those are the monster 6.5s. Everyone and their dog has a problem with the 6.5 creed, it's low hanging lazy fruit to hate it…but what I don't see is the appeal of the 26 Nosler and the 6.5-300 wby. The 27s and 28s just plain outperform then (compare the 270 wby to the 6.5-300 and you'll see what I'm getting at)

30-06. Heard so many kids when I was growing up and even now that had to get a 30-06 to hunt deer just like their dad. It's like you have to have a 30-06 to be a man. Saw fathers give their young son a 30-06 at the range and after they shot it, they didn't want to shoot anymore.
Also all the Creedmoors. Hornady just copied all past good cartridges.

Love too many cartridges to list.
Personally the 30-06 is one of my favorites, hard hitting as well as accurate. One cannot blame the 30-06 for ignorance. Yes it does have a pretty good wallop so one would think that knowing this Daddy or Grandpa would not hand a 12 year old a 30-06. Unfortunately that is not so. I am a Hunter Safety Instructor and it is surprising how many parents and grandparents do just that. The thought process which is obviously flawed is that either the rifle is a hand me down from grandpa or I want to buy the kid a rifle he/she will be able to shoot for life. Instead give them something to start out with that is accurate and a good choice for the game one is going to be hunting. My son started out with a .243 and worked his way up from there. I do totally agree about anything Creedmoor or just about anything else that is hyped. Stick to the basics. They have been around for a long time and will still be around for many more decades simply because they do the job and do it well. Looking over my shoulder back over more years than I care to think about how many of the new super wildcats that were hyped were famous, then died off much like the 6.5 Creedmoor is starting to do. Lots of them on the used gun racks these days.

300 WM and 7RM can both be real performers with faster twist barrels and longer freebore. Mag feeding can be come a problem with long bullets.

IMO there's no reason for 6.5mm bullets. To small for moose and not needed for deer plus will be out performed by a 6mm.

This is an interesting read. Seems alot of folks don't like some of the older cartridges not remembering or realizing the powders, bullets, and rifles of the day made those cartridges great and steps forward to what we shoot today.
Seems a lot of folks don't like the newer cartridges, not realizing the powders, bullets, and rifles we have today don't happen without a market to drive innovation. R&D don't pay for itself (unless your the .223, 30-06, 308, etc. Military development). Hate what you want if that's what you do, but remember, they ALL have had a hand in making this LRH thing, a thing.
That said, I hate the 30-06. Chambered in a Winchester model 70 push feed with 'hardwood' stock that I shot when I was a youth it is my recoil measuring stick. Nothing has topped it for shooting discomfort yet, to include the 378Wby (braked).

Hahaha
0ld eyes typing on a tiny iPhone. This phone has that auto erection feature that changes every other word. Wish i could stop that.

Yea, save those actions to repurpose.

No offence taken.

**** I love the 6.5 rem mag. I have 500 bulk rem brass for thar one.

The 8 mm Rem Mag was hated when it was introduced. If there had been the bullets then that we have now, it would have been a star.

Writers hated it. Of course I we know Mr Simpson immediately made a couple wildcats. Rem made the 416 Rem Mag that unfortunately still hangs around.

Cut up the 416 Rem Mags and get a Rigby. Use those actions to build a nice 7 rem mag with a 8 twist

270 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor.

270 is a jack of all trades, master of none. Just really does nothing for me. 6.5 Creedmoor is just over hyped on BS.

That said, I have two 6.5 Needmore and one of them is my old 270 rebarreled. I planned to rechamber it to 6.5x55 improved, but that was a year and a half ago and it's still a needmore.

Go figure...

I have never had

the opportunity to shoot a 460 , But I have heard they are brutal, no thanks !!
This particular .460 WBY was owned by movie star William Holden. My brother bought it at an auction. We wrote to him and he provided a letter with what African game he took with the rifle. I say he must've been a hardy individual like the heroes he portrays in the movies, because when I shot it it gave me a headache! It was EDM barrel ported too.

Interestingly, I shoot a .378 Wby with a 270gr Barnes TSX over 118gr RL22, and the recoil from it is also mighty, but not nearly as punishing. It has a factory muzzle brake on it. I've taken all kinds of North American game with it for more than 35 years now. When walking into a hunting camp, I could count on the other guys saying "Jesus, what are you gonna shoot with that?" I always answered "Pretty much anything I want to."

.224 Valkyrie……I've made some awesome hits on targets but to reload it is a hair pulling experience!! Not to mention the federal fiasco about the bullets used, the reamers, the rifling twist……my god this thing looked great on paper but in the field it CAN be a nightmare. This is all with a bolt action……hate to say all the negative things I've seen in a gas gun!

On the bright side it made me a better reloader being a difficult ***** to reload for!
I had really thought about buying one when I was seeing ammo going cheap. I didn't realize they were difficult to load for. I have since calmed down on wanting this cal. I don't see the cheap ammo anymore. And now hearing it's hard to load for has dampened my wants even more.
