Maximum point blank range 0-400

I'm on the quest of building a laser that bucks the wind, keeps energy, is generally fur friendly and allows you to hold fur to 400yds with a 6" MPBR. I'm building a 22-243ai fast twist with plans to push a 70gn .5 bc mono at 3800!

Anyone neck down their 243ai's and what was your experience?
I get 3830pfs with my 264WM 85gr HP its a Remington 721 with a Shilen 30" barrel with 6 grove 1 in 8 twist.

I know the converting brass neck size is some work. I change 280AI to 6mm/280AI cases. It takes 4 steps to achieve that size. I am using Redding 280AI bushing dies. I have 4 sizing dies, for not having change out the bushing each time. I also had to change out the decapping rod kit to 25/06 in the 280AI dies. The rods are a larger thread DI so they will not change. The decapping rod in the 208AI will not fit inside the necks after sizing a down a step. I cut the necks for thickness in 2 steps. My reamer end up a little smaller and what I wanted. It's okay. I having to cut to .0125th instead of 13th. Annealing the case between the 2nd and 3rd step.
(All new Brass/Never been fired) I cut my necks before anything else for thickness. I also crush a couple of cases in getting the sizing steps down.
Once fired cases I would anneal before anything else.
Hope that helps.

I should add - I have a 1-9 20-250 pushing .204 55 bergers lr's 3800. It's a 380yd 6" diameter MPBR. Haven't seen if it's fur friendly yet - but supposedly is…

We'll see. You and I have discussed this already elsewhere 🤣. I do have your data on hand. And I do also have 90 grain absolutes.

But I have 200 of the 75 hammers so I'm starting. With them as I have more of them
I'm honestly very curious how fast you can push those and I may try them.

That would be cool! I have read of a guy that shoots a 20-250ai with same bullets. Hope you have a bunch of them they don't make them anymore. But check out black hole bullets he makes some 50 plus grain bullets I believe.

They actually just so happen to be in stock at Grafs today. I grabbed a couple barrel's worth!

I can see the longer bullet. What I don't see is why not just use a 220 swift with 55 gr bullets at 3900fps. I have used one for years. It shoot a bug hole at 100yds, and almost a single hole. Using Sierra 55gr BtSp. I use it on ground squirrels from 200yds to 400yds. Nothing under the 200yds distance, because it wasn't fair or a challenge.

Because when hunting on the windy prairie that .2 class bc vs .4 class BC makes a hit or a miss difference in 20mph wind at 5-600 yds. Very specific use application. Absolutely doable with a 55 .224 but easier with the higher BC.
