Africa Hunting

Jill and I were just watching a movie with some Africa Hunting and Jill brought up an incident that happened while we were hunting in Africa.
This was years ago, but part of an adventure I can re-live today.

We were with our guide/friend and hunting a small herd of Zebra. I have to say that these were the hardest to Spot-Stalk. Seemed like there was always an Zebra EYE covering the area. Every time we would get several hundred yards – they would take off "Farting" all the way. Yes when Zebras take off and threatened they "FART" really loud. The one area we were hunting in was hilly a lot of Acacia (thorned) trees and also an old Papaya Plantation. Really didn't have a good view at any time due to the terrain.

Our friend said he was going to drive the 1940 old US American Jeep about 1K yards around the hills and then try to drive the Zebras toward us for a shot. Well we were put into a old Papaya Plantation and set up against at the base of an old Papaya tree. There was an open ground of about 40-50yds in front of us with grass/weeds/small trees about 3' high off of the ground. Jill and I had our camo on, were crouched against the base of the tree and were ready for anything to come into our shooting lane.

Well we were very pumped up and Adrenaline flowing when we saw the trees on the side of a hill about 500 yds away start to explode. We thought the Zebras were coming our way for sure.

I told Jill to get ready and we both were more or less in a kneeling position with rifles ready. It seemed light seconds or lightning when a herd od Wildebeasts came through out of the trees and the 40 yards of Grass/weeds between us. It was like a Tsunami of animals. Could not see to shoot because it happened sooo fast. The ground shook like an earthquake, the air filled with dust, Rocks and debris. It was a thunderous sound and the ground shook around us. I could not believe what was happening. I grabbed Jill and we both huddled behind the Papaya tree with Wildebeast running feet next to us and after they passed we just looked at each other covered in dust/dirt.

It was like being in a Cinemax 3D Theater. BUT LIVED TO TELL THE TALE

Our Guide/Owner of the land and our friend showed up about 15 minutes later walking and said " I tried to drive those Zebras to you and Hey I didn't hear any shots and why you guys covered in dirt"

This was just one adventure, had another one with a Cape. That's another story.

I thought you were going to say Jill almost shot you when you farted, or at least drew down on you.
You have no idea what happed after we were almost killed Jill was so level leaded. She wanted to know why we didn't shoot. well for one they ere too pict a trophy onr out and they were not Zebras, but coud have shot Wledebeast
SCAIREST PART IN MY LIFR EXCEPT VIET NN, BUT JILL WAS NOT THERE.
I WAS SO AFRAID OF JILL GETTING HURT AND COULD NOT SHOOT ANYTHING
YOU CANT IMAGINE DOZZZZZZEBZENS AN 800-900LB AMINAL RUNNING 40 MPR DIRECTLY AT YOU AND YOU AR ON THE GROUND WITHYOU WIFE

Had the same thing happen with a large group of hogs in Florida,it was a stampede you could hear them coming. My wife and I just tucked up behind a pine tree. A group of at least 100 hogs went past us got our wind then they all panicked and scattered in all directions.

We have hundreds of pictures - these are just from the Zebra - Wildebeest story. We harvested the Zebra and Wildebeest two days after the herd of Wildebeest almost running us over.
The Zebra was a smaller Stallion in the herd and good eating. The picture of the Wildebeest was with me and all our TRACKERS. Shot both with a 325WSM 200gr AB Model 70.
Jill shot the Zebra at about 200 yds rightside quartering to us. Blew the lungs out and did a 360 trun and dropped. I shot the Wildebeest at about 300yds left side quartering away at a walk on the side of a hilly area.. It ran about 200 yds spraying blood everywhere in 4' high grass.
