Over the counter tag state?

You don't need to get an OTC tag. Some tags are pretty much guaranteed draws. Come to MT next year and we can go hunt them together.
Except out of staters are only eligable for 10% of the available tags.I have been appllieng for the last 6 ears with preference points.

That is good to know. I will have to do some footwork this summer if I go that way. Would this be like in the Salida area or farther east?

Thanks
I've hunted antelope down in the Comanche National Grasslands in southern Colorado, east of Trinidad, right in the Colorado/Oklahoma/New Mexico border, right by the Oklahoma Panhandle. That's all public land, scattered about with private, so you do need to pay attention. I got a tag down there as a leftover.

For all regions that have permits. The same goes for Elk and Deer Tags.
But are you saying that you've been applying for the region 7 antelope tag for 6 years and haven't drawn it? I understand the 10% rule and the limited deer and elk special-draw permits.

That is correct.I have gotten deer tags about every other year.Preference points in Montana gets you another name in the tag barrel. It does not matter how many years you apply, you do not reach a certain time when you are gaurenteed a tag.Its luck of the draw. You might be lucky and draw a tag every year or maybe never.

That's wild. Maybe you just have terrible luck trying to draw antelope tags. Are you applying in other states too?

Colorado offers 2 seasons for over the counter rifle elk hunting. It is for bull elk only and the bulls must have 4 points on one side to be legal. The seasons are like 9 days and then 7 days long. Check out the colorado regs. It shows what units the tags are good for. Obviously there will lots of hunting pressure in those units but thats Colorado everywhere.
