300 Norma Mag Improved. Follow along!!!

Welp, I have no self control and I'm sending her off tomorrow to Weaver Rifles. I was recommended by TS customs to Ty Shaw at Weaver Rifles about his 300 NMI reamer and design. Spoke with Ty and Kevin over there and they seemed like great dudes.

Need to have something new to tinker with in the off season to stay out at the range and stay proficient anyways haha. Also going to have them fire form my brass so I don't have to deal with it lol

The barrel is a Bartlein 1-9 twist.

I had a ti action once and experienced hard bolt lift with book loads, in case you aren't aware ti stretches a lot more than steel and will lead to early pressure signs.
Don't take this as pushy but before spending time and money on a rebarrel seriously consider a steel action, especially with a lapua sized case.
At least give someone with a lot of 300 NM experience a call, I'd start with Ryan Pierce or Alex Wheeler

@Huntnful it looks like your bolt already has some sort of coating on it? I wouldn't change the color of the action either but that's just me. I think it matches so well.

I absolutely agree actually. But honestly, since I already have the action, and already tooks 220's up to 3100 without any issues, I figured I would just roll with it to keep things simple. Instead of buying another action and dealing with the crap that CA requires to register it and what now. Basically just going the cheap, simple route for now and giving up 50fps because of the potential early pressure signs. But I am aware of exactly what you're talking about!

The action will get blasted before they apply the DLC coating. And then it will just be simple to coat it all the same color afterwards. The coating on the bolt is just Nitride.

Huntnful I got a text from Ty at Weaver Rifles that my 300NMI is complete. 7# before the scope so it'll be right at the same weight as the 338 RUM Kevin did up for me a couple years ago. I'm planning on using a suppressor to cut down on recoil and racket. This thread has been a terrific read! I'll be ecstatic if I can duplicate your results.

Oh very cool!!! We'll have the same chamber then and can compare and contrast our data. Because I'm curious how the short suppressed barrel performs, as well as the velocity I can get from my TI Action!

awesome thread! I'm waiting on my 300 Norma Improved to be finished as we speak. I'm going with a bartlein rem varmint steel barrel, 1-8 twist for the 245's at sea level and finished at 27". I've been waiting on a Defiance Deviant but am considering going the Borden Bigfoot route that Ryan Pierce has had so much success with since it's in stock...

This is all awesome info and fun following along on your load development and hunting success as well.

I may have to pick up some 230 gr A-tips! They seem to shoot fantastic for you.

sorry if I missed it also, but what dies are you using?
Mine is a design by Mike at Hells Canyon Armory. I'm not sure who actually made his dies though.

27" with the 245's should be sweet!! Yeah I'd test those 230 A-tips also. They were super easy to get to shoot. I'll be testing them and the 225 ELDm's again first thing when the new gun gets back from Ty at Weaver Rifles!

Mike (HCA) reams his own dies not sure about Ty. Mine are Redding blanks. Here's my mule deer from Montana it was a rough year up there for us. Shot this one because it had a bad rear leg and couldn't hardly walk. Too bad because he was young and had decent genetics. Shot at 596 with a 245 at 2960 and he was DRT. And for those that are wondering the other side of the fence is Canada

Very nice!! Did you get an exit out of that 245?

Glad to hear the rifle is shooting good for you also!
