I am always going to be happy when gas prices go down. The white house claims they are lowering gas prices by as much as 40 cents a gallon. Do you believe them? Depending on how you look at things politically, thats a trick question because you either have to admit that they lowered gas prices that much which you don't want to do or they are over exaggerating to make themselves look good and gas prices won't jump nearly that much when they stop which you don't want to admit either. Again, that just depends on your politics. I have a tendency to believe they are over exaggerating about how much they are saving us at the pump to make themselves out to be the hero. When they stop, gas prices will probably jump 30 cents a gallon and then start slowly going back down.
Do yourself a favor and read up on the what that SPR was designed for...it wasn't so this failure of an administration can empty it for political points. The SPR has MAJOR national security implications, if you can't see that and instead chose to cheer their emptying, I can't help you. We're done here...you're going on ignore.

You spent 40k on glorified dry fire...
I'm only joking, but I seriously could not justify that for rim fire. I do have a done up Tikka, I could even justify the price of a Vudoo if I shot it more but 40k in 14 months is aggressive.

I get to write off all my fuel and the price is still sickening up here.

I'm nowhere near that on rimfire I get the appeal.

When I started on lrh I could shoot to 1000 within 10 minutes from my house now 100 yards is 10 and 1000 means open public land and a tank of gas. So less big blasting much more rimfire.

With that as I've aged the taper I put on my barrels has decreased and with the slug of new customers taking new barrel orders out to years my rate of fire has decreased. Now I shoot rimfire while the centerfires cool.

Add to that big game hunting usually is only a few weeks a year, grouse and Ptarmigan hunting happens every week or more and my rimfire goes every time. Lead me to the realization, my centerfires are shot at a rate of 5-10: 1 to rf. A premium 22 makes more logical sense. Whenever someone makes a Dakota m 22 solution for the rimx/curtis/vudoo I'll be all in at a price point that would embarass younger me....

I have noticed that also. Things like 9mm, 223, and 308 started dropping before anything else. 9mm almost seems to be back to pre-pandemic prices. Its ammo like 35 whelen and 45/70 that may take years to get back to normal.

9 mil at 13 a box (last weekend several spots had it for that) compared to about 10 prior to Kung flu is about right factoring in the inflation over those 30 months. Gas over 2 in college was crippling now under low 3s and we are road trippin.... 13$ a 50 give powder cost is probably the new normal. Looking at component prices on the big boys.... it'd gonna have to be a Dep. Vs. Rec. To lower that it seems.

I don't need to read up. I know what its for. Every president since Reagan has dipped into it. See ya.

I don't think Jim said or meant to say that he was happy that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve was being misused for partisan political advantage. He only said he is happy when gas prices go down.

I share your concern for national security, but no reason to put Jim on your ignore list. This cold weather may be causing us all to drink too much caffeine. Slowly remove your finger from the trigger guard and put your gun back on safety. Where is the smile emoji when ya need it?

I think you meant JimFromTN and you are correct that I am not happy that the SPR is being misused but I am happy to pay less at the pump regardless of how it got there. I am not going to curse the gods because I spent less on gas.

As for him ignoring me, some people don't like others having a differing opinion. If you notice, he came on here and started arguing with people immediately and never actually discussed the topic. I am not one of those people. I love a good debate. I do apologize for getting sucked in and keeping it going. Its that love of a good debate that makes it hard to let go.

My reloading closet is where I want it, I'm retired, and my better half has a gov't job that likely isn't going anywhere. So I'm saying, no change…

I am not a hunter, not sure why I am here, but I shoot a lot of long range rds. Bergara, Vudoo, Rim X with easy to load 10 rd mags with greasy just make it fun today. I will but hate loading 10/22 mags, Anschutz mags with slippery ammo.
This hiatus from CF has been a blessing, now I enjoy shooting 6 & 7mm rifles again. And on non windy days I am pretty good with 22LR, out to 600 yards. I am waiting on a fast tw barrel, will improve the odds.
With good ammo, these 22's I own are no joke, and fun!

Nothing improves basic marksmanship more than deliberate, focused practice with a very good 22 LR, such as the ones you have. I absolutely hate the word "plinking" because of the way it is used and so many believe that is all a 22 LR is good for.

If you treat a good 22 Rimfire as a training tool and a hunting weapon (I do) it can be in microcosm what a good centerfire hunting rifle is. No, it will not match centerfire distances or power, but in microcosm, it duplicates in a smaller sphere the same thing we do with centerfire hunting rifles. All the marksmanship basics are the same and so rimfire is good practice that contributes to centerfire skill. There are some differences in hold but rimfire still makes you a better long range centerfire shooter.

Just to illustrate that point: Anyone who cannot shoot less than Half MOA with a 22 LR at 50 yards will probably find it difficult to shoot Half MOA with a Centerfire at 100, 200 or especially farther. The Rimfire is an economical, stress free way to develop the skills needed to make that longer range shot on game with a centerfire. If you can't shoot well at 50 yards with an accurate rimfire rifle and good matching ammo, you will not do as well with a centerfire in a hunting situation.

That's why short range squirrel hunting with a 22 LR is deadly serious to me. It is translates into centerfire longer range success.
