Thoughts on the Savage B Mag in 17 WSM?

Very nice!
I have an older model BMAG .17 WSM, the first skinny barreled plastic stock. I did a few upgrades on the rifle and it has been my go to rifle. I have two Savage .17 Rifles and ordered another early last month, an A1 .17 WSM Sporter that is on back-order.

Bought one on impulse because it was in stock. Planning to shoot 20 grain Winchesters out of it. What are your thoughts on these guns and the round?
I have had one for several years. Early there were some ammo problems but all that is fixed. Takes a little getting used to shoot well. At camp I have a spot I can reach out to groundhogs 200yds and it is devastating on them.

Mine is that same model and after some homie bedding and adding a Glades bolt handle, it is my go-to rifle.

Doing away with the shroud and adding the free factory upgrade parts was a plus.

The light carry is great.

Not familiar with the upgrade - have to check it out.

Yeah, Savage suggests you do away with the shroud over the safety with a free kit from them. It even includes tools and directions. It's a quick and easy job. Savage says it is a safety issue.
And it really streamlines that part of the rifle.

They pay postage. They will ask for your rifle serial number when you call.

The easy fix job takes only a few minutes, like I said, I did that upgrade fix.

When I bedded my Tupperware rifle stock, I also included two 3/16" threaded steel rods in the forearm to stiffen it and it worked great, making the forearm stiff. Accuracy of that rifle depended upon where the forearm was rested with the flimsy stock before my bedding job.

When bedding I also corrected the forearm end touching the barrel, a common occurrence of Savage WSM rifles. Barrel is now centered.
I use Brownell's Acra Glas. I have used it in my shop for well over 30 years. An hour working time and easy cleanup is only two of several reasons I use it.

You'll need to make a few upgrades, first throw the savage stock away, put on a Boyds , free float barrel, adjust trigger, I had one and killed quite , a few Gh's and coyotes. Stepped it up to a 17 hornet and never looked back.

You can, but they must be hit in the first third of the body or they'll crawl away.
