I knew a guy that was in Orange Co. Ca. calling coyotes with a rabbit in distress call. He had a weird feeling and looked behind him. There was a mountain lion about 15 ft. from him crouched down like ready to pounce. He had a recurve. He stould up and yelled and waived his bow. The lion just stood up but didn't move. He picked up rocks and started throwing them at it. It finally turned and just walked away. I told him screw that. I'd of been launching arrows not rocks. I could of cared less if they were protected it that point.

Hunting Coyotes with a Recurve BOW????
He is a HUNTER!!!!
I have hunted Deer and Hogs successfully with a Bow and then went to the ultimate hunting Turkey. My last dozen Toms were with a bow, but since my neck surgeries, can't hunt with a Bow.
Never got a Coyote with an arrow, but you have to be REAL GOOD.
Thank God that the cat didn't get him. I tell people that you should hunt in a pair - Two Hunters for yotes so you can cover 360. BUT the other hunter you take with you has to have the same or more experience.
I have taken friends hunting Coyotes and they have BLOWEN sets due to lack of hunting knowledge.
I guess that the only way you gain knowledge is by being taught by more experienced hunters.
You know David Killed Goliath with a Stone. Just make sure that you have a good sling and rounded/weighted rock for accuracy!

We used to call them in close when I was young and the yotes weren't educated. I used bow or shotgun. Sometimes we'd call at night. If you could keep the owls from dive bombing your head. One night my buddy was calling about 30 yds from me . We were in a wash. Backs against the bank. Decent moon and the wash light colored sand/dirt. I had a coyote jump over my legs heading for him. He had a bow. I had a shotgun. The coyote stopped about 3 yards from him and turned tail and started running back towards me. He was about 10 yards out in front of me and hit him with some #4 buck. Flattened him. Crazy night. I was probably 19 or 20 years old at most.
Yes, back to back best with two people . I dont hunt much with bow anymore. Shoulder is screwed up. I never killed a coyote with a bow either. All I've killed with a bow is 5 cow elk and one bull in Az. One buck and 4 Javalina in Az. One feral hog on Catalina Island, Ca. and a porcupine in Utah. Lol.

Poor ol porcupine 😉

Good eating!
If it was not for possums and porcupines the South & North Armies (and southern people) would have starved during the Civil War.

Possums are now a diet for us since Brandon took over. Can't afford store bought chicken or pork. Farmers are guarding their cows from poachers.
They call us and want to rent out Samson and Cassie (Bernese Mountain Dog and Pyrenees) to chase poachers away from their cattle!
There are also Ranchers putting adds in the Livestock News Letter for "Armed Guards" to protect stock from POACHERS!

We don't see road kills anymore (deer) -gone right after they are killed.

Anyone wants a porcupine I have a dog that has a penchant for finding them. Always fun pulling quills out solo in the field. This was Monday.

You pay shipping and they're yours.

That poor dog. I feel for him. Stay tuff little guy!
She's Macy- my returned Covid litter pup. 2 years old and full of pee and vinegar. Good dog though. She'll be a great hunter. She got a lot of OJT over the last week, ran thru a few, pointed a few (plus the porky) and well, we're still working on the retrieving part, lol.
