Hammer Hunter Load Data, (See page 1, Post 8)

I got my hornet out with the 33 shock hammer tonight.
Browning A Bolt Micro Hunter
22 hornet
22" barrel 1-16 twist
Remington partial sized brass
Cci 400 primer
1.665 oal
Hodgdon H110
33gr shock hammer
11.4-3047
11.6-2929
11.8-3015
12.-3001
12.2-3067
12.4-3104
12.6-3170
12.8-3216
13-3173
13.2-3235
13.4-3266
There were no pressure signs throughout the test case capacity is the limiting factor here.
All 11 shots were within 1 1/4 inches or so.
Also note I used a lee crimp die with 1/4 turn

Are you using that for pelts? Would be really cool to hear how that works on whatever you shoot. Such a cool cartridge combination

I am planning on trying to take a deer with it this season. Keeping shots around 100 yards and calm. I will also be using these on fox coons and coyotes too. Im pretty excited to see what hammers can make the old hornet into.

Finally got out to finish up load development with my 280 AI. Details below.

280 AI, 24" Criterion barrel, 1:9 twist
120 gr Hammer Hunter
Petersen brass
215 Primer
3.250" COAL
Lee FCD set up to factory recommendations
64.3 gr StaBall

3541 fps, ES 3, 1x fired brass, 0.002 shoulder bump, 0.487 moa

3563 fps, ES 6, new brass, 0.553 moa

Side note, I love Petersen brass. It gave me over 100 fps over my old load with the previous barrel. Plus, this load isn't the top node. I had another node above it at 3650 fps without pressure, but it wasn't as accurate. Also, realized my picatinny rail was a little loose when I finished shooting today. My groups could possibly be even better than what I got today.

Looks like I found a winner boys. Thinking this rifle may get to go pronghorn hunting in NM next month. Will have to see how it shoots out to 300 yards (my range max) before I pick it over my 6.5-284 Norma and it's proven load with the 109 gr Absolute Hammer.

3170 FPS Average (5 Shot ES 12 SD 5.3)

The 30-06 load is below pressure but out of room in the case, the 7SS load is at max at 72F but most of my hunting is well below that up here.

GL,

Not sure if the is goes here. Not too many threads taking about Jack Hammers and really only one thread on 10mm. Started testing the waters today with the 137grn .355 JH and the 150 grn .400 JH. Gun used for both was a SIGP226.

I couldn't find any load data for 137grn bullets to start out, so I extrapolated between the 147grn Hornady and the 124grn. Usually this works for me, but I did have a whoopsie moment with unique….

.357 SIG 3" barrel, 1/16 twist, starline brass, CCI 500, COAL 1.135", 137grn JH

-CFE Pistol 6.5grn 1187fps
-Blue Dot 8.5grn 1220fps
-Unique 7.5grn 1389fps (DO NOT USE, blown primer, pretty sure I could fit a large primer in the pocket now). I will drop down to 6.5 (max for the 147grn Hornady) and try again.

40 S&W 4" barrel, 1/16 twist, win brass, CCI 500, COAL 1.120", 150 grn JH

-CFE Pistol 7.8grn 1319fps (didn't see any pressure signs, but this is much faster than book loads for 150grn Nos JHP so I'm not going to go any higher)

Sorry not more data but hope this can help someone who is trying to start out with the JH.

Ryan
To expand off this with the 137 JH in 357 SIG

CFE Pistol
6.6grns. 1244fps
6.7grns. 1269fps
6.8grns. 1297fps (enlarged primer pocket)
6.9grns. 1298fps (enlarged primer pocket)
7.0grns. 1291fps (enlarged primer pocket)
For brass life using CFE I wouldn't go any higher than 6.5grns to be honest.

Alliant Power Pistol
7.5grns. 1271fps
7.6grns. 1280fps
7.7grns. 1295fps
7.8grns. 1303fps
7.9grns. 1304fps
All primer pockets were tight after shooting this ladder and no signs of excessive pressure. I think Power Pistol will be the best powder for this combo.

110 Hammer Hunters, loaded 0.050" off the lands
Bighorn Origin
6.5 Creedmoor, 18" Preferred Barrel Blanks with Tbac Ultra 7, 1-8" twist
Lapua SRP
CCI 450s
Varget

Velocities measured with Magneto Speed

39.5 - 2862 fps
40.0 - 2897
40.5 - 2923
41.0 - 2959
41.5 - 2993
42.0 - 3045
42.5 - 3053
43.0 - 3108
43.5 - 3146
44.0 - 3175 (very slight ejector swipe)

-Have not shot for accuracy yet, put the POI for all 10 was pretty close at 100, so I'm not expecting much drama to get an accurate load. Probably gonna verify/test 43.5-43.7 and go hunt. Pretty dang good velocity for a shorty.

Rifle: Marlin 336 30-30 caliber. 20" bbl, 10 twist.
Bullet: 143g Lever Hammer
Brass: Nosler
Primer: Federal 210
Trim: 2.030"
COAL: 2.534" (.040" off)
Powder: 37g Hodgdon Leverrevolution (HLVR) compressed
Notes: Velocity 2400fps, compressed load, no crimp. I found pressure at 37.1g with only one of 8 rounds had a heavy lever extraction.
