I hunt with the Hornady CX bullets 130gr out of my 270 win. It is a moose and bear killer out to 300, I personally won't shoot past 300yrds. I like being close ( but not too close for bears) . I have shot Caribou out to 500 with full pass thru, with deer and hogs would not hesitate out to 6-700 with fair wind.

How would you compare the barnes and hornady against each other
I have had reliability issues with Barnes, I don't know if it was going too fast 3130fps. Shot a caribou 3 times around 120 yards. Found 2 unopened rifle holes and 1 quarter sized exit hole. With Hornady have not had any problems with bullet expansion. I do limit my shots to chest cavity ( soft tissue ) on entry. They always punch thru opposite shoulder blade. I just wait for my shot to open up. I try to save as much meat as I can.

I've been using a .270 Wby or .270 WSM ( Now have ) for the last 35+ years.
I killed a lot of stuff with, plain ole' Hornady 150's Cup / Core ( Inter Lock's ) at about, 3,100 FPS in, the Wby.
I have used, the 140 AccuBonds @ 3,155 FPS and 140 Berger, Classic Hunters @ 3,185 FPS to, take my Last 2, Elk and I can tell you that,..
The AccuBonds do penetrate well and "hold", a small "Mushroom",.. BUT, the Berger's, Kill like,.. the "Hammer of Thor" !
The Berger, Penetrated BOTH, Shoulder Blades and Hides ( Core, was stuck in far side, Hair ) and made "Mush" out of, Everything, in between !
Kapow,.. Hooves, in Air ! Surprisingly, very little edible Meat, Loss !

Here's a 500-550 lb nilgai shot at 480 yds with the 117 Hammer Hunter at 480yds through both shoulders and a complete pass through DRT.

Mine is exceptional with 140 Accubond on deer and pigs.
Working on 124 Hammer Hunter now. I will know more when it is not 115F.

I never loaded for the .270. Got my son a starter reifle (Rem 721 in 270) when he started hunting and a Win M70 CRF that I let friends used. We used Win PowerPoint 130 grains or Remington CoreLokt. In our parts it was more harvesting than hunting and never lost a deer. Maybe when the weather is not 115 like @Buckys said, maybe I will look into a load.

From My 270 Weatherby Mag , the 130 Grn. Sierra GK,s at 3300fps were terrific on Mule deer in Wyo. at extended ranges, in 1980 . The old 150 Grn. Grand Slam bullet was excellent on a small bull elk in Colo. in1981. Bullet recovered from the Hide on the opposite side. For the past 10 years or more , in my .270 Win the 130 Grn Nosler Ballistic Tips at about 3025/3050 fps, super deadly on Whitetail. This year I will use the 270 Weath. Mag to shoot deer at longer ranges and I am going to use the 150 Grn Accubond LR for the first time on Game. If I had the chance , I think I would try both the 130 Grn. and the 150 Grn. Nosler Ballistic Tips on hogs. I also think they would be really EXCELLENT on deer. In my 270 Win, that Ballistic Tip bullet is my #1 choice for Whitetail Deer . If you felt that you wanted to make a hole on Both Sides of the animal, there are always the Nosler Partitions. in 130 Grn/. and 150 Grn. Lots of other brands too. What a perfect opportunity for you to TEST various bullets, in different weights, and at different velocities. I don't know the bag limits on how many hogs you are allowed to shoot in a season. On the outdoor channel, it looks like guys will shoot several Hogs in one shooting session. If you're allowed to take 5 or 6 in a season, that's a great opportunity. If you are allowed more, that's the basis of a fantastic study . Please keep us in the loop as to your results. I will let everyone know how the ABLR's worked( or did not work ) on whitetails in the 400 to 500 yard Carolina bean fileds. Good Luck Buddy

It's unlimited on hogs here year round except on wma land
