Action / Bolt Coatings

Thx. Nitriding is a process, not a coating.
I've got a inquiry to the action manufacturer
In regards to that process.
I was also looking for options here on coatings
& qualified application provider.

Other than CeroKote which you ruled out, there's DLC coating. SAC used to use this guy, not sure if they do anymore or not:
It's something I've considered because my sweat is acidic or something because it eats coatings off of part.s Lacquer doesn't stand a chance against me, nor gold and silver plate. Some things turn green if I wear them long enough. Part of why I carry Glocks, they're cheap to work on. TiN coated upgrades are in many of them.

And geez, talk about splitting hairs here. Nitriding is the process, "nitride" is the resulting finish. Idiomatically "coating" is used to refer to finishes also because while a finish such as nitride can act as a base for subsequent coatings it also functions as a stand-alone coating if it's not over-coated. Parkerizing is a phosphate treatment process that results in a parkerized finish, commonly called phosphate coating. Six one half-dozen the other, it's the same thing. TiN is a coating also, has to be put on with PVD like the Ion coat I linked to.

I sent a Borden action I had to H&M for Nitride treatment. The turn around time was 7 days and they are great to work with. The cost was $250 for up to 5 actions. Anything over 5 was an additional $50. I only had one action but was able to throw in a couple of bags of stainless steel screws and a few other items without any extra charge. The only thing that might be a problem is if the bolt handle is soldered on. It might not hold up to the heat going through the process and need to be re-attached afterwards.

Thx, but not looking for information here on Nitriding process, I've directed my inquiry to the action manufacturer in that regard. And would only Consider their approved source.

Looking for information primarily on Coatings
Such as DLC, etc: and sources to contact.
Thx.

FYI, H&M does Defiance's nitriding. Just for future knowledge.

Looking for options & reputable service providers for Coating a custom action & bolt.
Maybe DLC or ?

Not interested in Cerakote.

Thx.
Birdsong. It's what they use on the nuclear attack submarines. It isn't just a coating, it's a chemical reaction that changes the surface of the metal to be resistant to rust. Even after the color wears off the metal is still protected. It is also self lubricating.

👍

Maybe there is a coating out there, other than nitride, that doesn't add dimension to the bolt and inside the action. My experience with cerakote is it will cause difficulty cycling the action when applied on all surfaces. I would be interested in hearing if there is another option that doesn't increase the dimensions.

Hard chrome may be another coating option, I didn't think Birdsong was still in business but it is tough.
