.223 Remington semiauto rifles that don't look like ARs

I'd ditch the "military" looking rule and open some options. If you want to start reaching out why not a heavy barreled bolt action .223 with a 10 round mag? Accurate rifles are more interesting imo.

At the time she was in Santa Cruz. I believe she tried both indoor and outdoor range. She was a security guard at the time, so who knows where she tried. btw that was when a 9mm brass was .20 a round!
The other issue for outdoor ranges was water runoff. If the range couldn't control the runoff then they deemed it a lead contamination hazard. If I remember correctly.

I think you're right. I'm going to have a chat with my friend and tell him we shouldn't restrict our choice based on the appearance of the rifle.

Really disappointed in you guys. Person asks a legit question and all most of you can do is come up with a bunch of smart a** remarks. If I remember correctly, Remington made the 742 in 223 for police departments. Finding one would probably be a problem.
He got honest replies. All firearms are military looking guns. From the dawn of time they've all been used in miltary service. You can call it what you want, but you have to accept the facts. Even the mini 14 most people are recommending is a copy of a military gun. So the legit answer to his legit question is all of them look like military guns. But if you feel I'm incorrect. please feel free to let me know which ones aren't. I'm curious.

Not sure the Ruger ranch rifle is "legal" in California right now or not--- it has gone on/off the "assault rifle list" several times over the years.
Last I knew, ruger did offer a "ca compliant" - featureless "ranch" rifle --- but calis rules change quickly.
You should read up on cali laws and do some research before choosing. Ruger does make 10 round mags for it but no "clips"
Alternatively, he might consider moving to a 2A friendly state?

Their libetali
I say do the opposite. Invite all like us to move BACK to California and bring the vote swing back the other way. If we don't, we're just helping them concentrate their liberalism. And they want to run the rest of the country next...
Liberals are already very concentrated. Thats the part that makes no sense to me . Major coastal cities supposedly have enough power to dictate what the rest of the country can and can not do .
The reality is that people living in crime infested anthill live lives that are nothing like those of us living outside those dysfunctional places. I dont think they can comprehend that fact.
As opposed to the semi

You can tell it's Mattel it's swell!
Back when the ar10 and m16 first came out, they were plastic fantastics and looked like space aged toys . I can't think of a single pc of plastic on any AR type rifle I own now . They are built more from materials you would see on a custom car than a childs toy. All machined aluminum, carbon fiber, and the strongest of steel alloys . Any true gun guy that thinks the AR is anything like the first offerings really owes it to themselves to take another look. Accuracy in the sub half moa is very doable as well.
I'm an accuracy nut. I honestly think a gun that won't shoot way under moa is a paper weight. What is the point of a rifle if you can't hit where the ctosshairs tell you it should. If I am satisfied with the accuracy of the MSR then you can sure bet it has the ability to shoot lights out ! You couldn't give me a semi auto before I gave the AR platform a try. Now its my go to for anything non magnum .
Its a shame the OP can't use one in Cali.

The truth is all guns could be considered military style weapons if you go all the way back in history. Muskets were military weapons at one time, but now they are not given a second thought as such. You don't even have to go through an FFL to purchase one. Is it possible an AR15 will be looked at the same way in another 200yrs? With the advancement in technology it's possible. If you are really not a troll and are a law abiding red blooded American citizen, then maybe you shouldn't worry about the appearance of the guns you choose but instead use it as a tool to educate the people around you for it is not the gun but the person behind it that determines how it is used as it is with any other tool.

We've been plinking with PC carbine 9mm's with red dots and want to expand the range from 200 yards to 600 yards while using red dots or holosights with multidot reticles. .223 seems like a good round for that.
My ffl just told me this morning the mini 14 is hard to get but he didn't say its not california
I bought a mini14 in .223 from a pawn ship about 10 or 12 years ago. It was the worst shooting center fire rifle I've ever shot. Literally a 5-6 moa gun. Granted it was an older model and it was from a pawn shop, so it might not have been a good representation of that model, but it was bad enough that i would never buy another one. Lots of MSRs tho that shoot lights out, so if you're dead set against a bolt action, I would bite the bullet and just go with a high quality MSR. You'll have a big enough challenge shooting 600 yds with a .223 using van accurate platform. Trying to do it with an inaccurate one just seems like a road to frustration.

What's the purpose? Does it have to be in a .223? Remington Model 742 comes in different calibers if it needs to be semi-auto. Not sure if that escapes your California clauses.

As opposed to the semi semi autos?
Yea, no one like a semi semi auto. I call those jamba matics ! My post was joining another member in laughing at a phrase used by the media to make semi autos SEEM more scary 😳
I'm not sure why the post i quoted didn't show up . It was there when I posted mine.
