Looking for a thread: Fire Forming W/O Cow, Just Powder & Tissue

I thought I had flagged this thread but I didn't. I have tried different types of searches but can not locate it.

The topic was fire forming brass without adding COW, just using pistol powder and tissue pressed in the case.

Anyone remember this thread.

I have always found it easier to seat bullet hard into lands.
When I chamber my guns I do it wit specific brass lot.Mostly lapua..
But not always.
The accuracy I have found to be no different between new brass or very used brass as long as you do not OVER resize...

I have used Bullseye powder with tissue paper. It's been a while. Used it to form 270 brass into a 338 Sherman. Don't remember charge used. Maybe I wrote it down? I'll check.

I know nothing of the thread but I fire form with a small charge of pistol powder, fill the case with white flour and put crisco over case mouth. Once and done

The question with any of these is clean up vs safety vs barrel life.

COW is proven safe, and the clean up isn't terrible. My charge was 11 gr of titegroup. I'm pretty sure my action can handle that!

Pure pistol powder is unsafe, if you ask me. You are asking the powder to blow out before It burns and blows up your gun. With my luck I would have the gun that makes this unsafe.

I tried a false shoulder and ~45000psi loads, I stretched the case walls too much. I'm guessing the firing pin pushed the case forward, even with a false shoulder…..which then stretched the case. I didn't have that issue with 6PPC, so maybe my false shoulder wasn't big enough??

What are you trying to fireform (i.e., wildcat round, X to AI)?

20 Vartarg case. It's a little under on the headspace causing primer issues.

I guess I could throw out there that I use AA 5 pistol powder when I do it. Only about 5 or 6 grains of it. It doesn't take very much. Flour and crisco keep the powder by the primer. Is a bit of a clean up but nothing serious and saves quite a bit of money vs shooting 3 rounds out of every case to get it fully formed. Lot of powder, primer, bullets plus barrel life. As always start LOW can always add a grain of powder to the next

I've used only pistol powder and a cotton ball stuffed down into the case, but don't quite get the shoulder pushed forward enough on my 6.5 Sherman. Once I added some COW, the case formed quite a bit better.
