New squirrel rifle

Everyone must have at least one grand old squirrel popper. Mine is WEATHERBY MARK XXII deluxe bolt .22 lr, with a 6.5x20 Leupold... dealy accurate.

Got my new rifle the other day. Cz 457 american. Bought it on line. Sure has some nice wood on it. Don't know if i want to take it in the woods. Hope it shoots as good as it looks. View attachment 255095
I picked up a used 455 a few weeks ago and can't wait to get it out of the beech wood stock it came with and into a nice Boyd's stock with some pillars!

I bought a CZ 452 a coupe years. I have a pretty stock but not that good looking as yours. If I was you I would shoot it "As Is" and check it out. I have worked on the barrel channel 3 times floating the barrel and then the barrel comes in contact with the wood again. Stock is not stiff enough. I am going to work on it a little more in the next month or so.
I have even debated, Either make a stiffer stock, Or when my buddy gets back from Florida I have though and threatened to take that 24 1/2 " barrel chuck it in his lathe cut and recrown the barrel to 21 inches to see if it will take the pressure off the front of the stock and free float the barrel once and for all.

With a .22 rimfire you should lose very little velocity. Depending on which 'drip under pressure' (expert 😉) one consults, a 22 long rifle cartridge burns all its powder & reaches max velocity between 16 & 20 inches.

To the degree that's so all a longer barrel nets is sight radius & you're scoping it.

Darn nice wood on it!

That's a great looking rifle. I'd be worried about scratching walking through the woods. They sure make some nice looking ones.
I have a few rim fires that just sit around because I don't want to scratch them up in the woods. Older but not that old. Such as a Rem 552 Speedmaster. Beautiful gun. I'm not sure it was ever fired. Is it smart to let them sit in the box ? To me, it sure isn't much fun. lol

I just reserved a left handed varmint model for my wife. I generally enjoy being jealous of her guns and using that excuse to buy more guns for myself.

I bought a CZ 457 American a little over a year ago, I got the 22 Mag version, I love that caliber. I topped it off with the Athlon Optics Talos BTR Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 4-14x 44mm 1/10 MIL First Focal Side Focus APLR2 MIL Reticle which is an excellent price today on Midway. It has proven itself on many squirrels, raccoons, and opossums. I did take mine out of the stock and free float the barrel. Any of the CZ's I have shot have been amazingly accurate

As far as the new dark finishes go, you got a pretty one. I wouldn't change a thing. I have two CZ 452's and love them very much.
