Switch to 69gr or better yet 75-77gr in your 223 and run IMR 8202 XBR in both guns as previously mentioned.

Hey,So you have an M1A on the healing bench, that needs to rock and roll... The M1A is my go-to rifle with my M118 OTM clone using the 168gr Serria Mk, it's a machine out to 1k. Have you ever thought about the Savage straight-pull action the Impulse? I think it's a real sleeper. I think you can use the W846 in the .308 just stay with the 147gr/150gr or 155gr bullets.

At your suggestion, I went and looked at the Savage Impulse Elite today. It handled well and felt nicely balanced for this type of gun. The shop let me put 10 rounds downtown. That's when this new purchase possibility went south. When you cycle the action, you have to really give a tug on that bolt to get to unlock. So much so that it completely takes the gun off target. I'm not sure if I could get used to that. If you are thinking about this gun for PRS, you may want to rethink it through. May be OK for other uses. Your milage will vary. Thanks for the suggestion, but the search continues.

8208 is even less sensitive than Varget
Thanks for the sitrep on the kit, I'm thinking perhaps the charging tightness might be that it's new or not quite broken in? but... if it's not and as you found in your experience with it, you may be correct it might not be something that I'd build on, the pull-push bolt rifles that I have tried have all been butter smooth. I understand Browning has one out, I think it's in the US market. Thanks again, Cheers
I thought the same thing about this gun and it not being broke in. The store rep told me they log round count carefully and this gun had 1100+ through it. I commented to him that it may be the ball bearing locking of the bolt that contributes to the issue. He said that over 50% of folks trying this gun said the same thing about the bolt. Somewhat of a tap or light jerk required to cycle the bolt. Not excessive, but enough for the gun to go off target. Lets face it, you dont want the bolt to just fall out of battery but...Did it work OK, yes. But IMHO, this requires serious thought if this gun is a PRS gun choice. Target shooting with time to spare, may work well for you. I think i need to stew on this a while. Hmm...If you get the itch, try one out for yourself and evaluate. Browning is next. The powder/temp sensitivity chart I have shows…
Varget @ .19 fps per 1 degree temp change
IMR8208 @ .59 fps per 1 degree temp change
On this chart, that makes IMR8208 3X's more temp sensitive than Varget
If you can find Shooters World "Precision Rifle" powder it will use the same load data as VARGET and in my opinon it is as good or better.
I've seen this stuff around. But have no experience with it. What's up with it?
Just one of the GREAT powders offered by Shooters world. The "precision Rifle" is advertised to be the same burn rate as Varget so i bought a canaster of it and was very impressed with the results.
What you using it on?
