Both Fox and Grey Squirrels come in Black around here. Color phase can be partial, mottled or jet black. Actually fairly common. Uncommon, around here anyway is solid white. In 63 years I've only seen one alive. I was deer hunting at the time and was armed with a 7MM Bee. Shooting him was not an option so I looked at him closely through the scope. Range was maybe 20yds so I got a good, long look. Every hair snow white with a pink nose and eyes. It was a Fox Squirrel. As soon as he left I slipped out of the woods and went home to fetch a .22. Hunted him for a week and never found him again. No leaves and he was easy to spot. I always wondered if a Raptor beat me to him.

Lmao ! I'm serious on the aluminum drop P clamps ! Wish I had a photo. They'd run along the strand/cable and I'd grab it and swing it back and forth . Never knocked one off. I'm gonna smoke some payote and go nite nite now. Talk later brothers .

I have a roofing business and we see lots of lead boots on vent pipes that the squirels eat. They also chew wood trim to get inside attics, a lot of people keep BB or pellet guns by their patio doors to quitely dispose of the little pest.

Woodpeckers do damage to log homes/cabins also. They get under the front porch and start pecking a hole or little holes to stick acorns, nuts in.

Why would someone keep lead boots on the roof ?

Years ago I had a little travel trailer I had put on some property I had on the Paunsagaunt Plateau near Kanab, Ut.. I was archery deer hunting on the Kiabab Plateau in Az. near Fredonia. I wanted to take trailer back home. It was only about a 25 mi. drive between the two places. I got the trailer hooked up and had no lights or anything else. When I inspected I found trailer wiring chewed up in several places. Dam 's !
I stopped in Kanab at hardware store and bought some wire. Spent half the next day rewiring trailer. I'd be out hunting and kept thinking those black Kiabab were chewing on my new wireing job.

The splice is supposed to be a circle all the way around. The customer had 223 volts on a 120 volt plugs. So thanks to Rocky they burnt everything up on that leg

We have been calling the monkey squirrels "fox" but they are really different. They were rare at the club land but have exploded in numbers the past couple years. Really tame and inquisitive, coming up close to hunters. No one ever shoots one. Thanks for the info.

Yeah , I couldn't believe it. , I've also seen a robin with white patches of feathers , it was in a bunch of 30 or 40 that fed in my yard everyday for a while. I would tell my neighbor in my best Native American voice -
( Gary , I have seen the white robin )

Lotsa black squirrels up in the Green Bay and Lacrosse areas of Wis.
Robins with white feather tips are not rare around here....
