I find it interesting when reading and trying to understand the perspectives of individuals. Generally I believe many individuals attempt to justify why what they have is the best by discrediting the other options. I get that to a certain degree, but the over hype of some products and processes can get annoying. Separating real world performance from hype can only be done through objective testing given a specific set of parameters.
It really depends on the what the individual wants (personal preference). Do they want to jump on the band wagon with with the latest wave of new products, or do they want to be more of an outlier or traditionalist? There is nothing wrong with either camp as long as you can respect the individual's perspective and preference.
I applaud new product and process offerings. The hard part is separating real world objective results from individual bias. I put a great deal of weight on the opinions of individuals with experience and track records for objectivity like the OP.

Hornady seems to have recognized the trend towards mono's and has come into the market with their own new offering.

I've been a really big fan of Hornady for better than 30 years since I first started shooting their varmint bullets when I was hiding and doing predator control and shot their Interbond, in my opinion the best bonded bullet in the US for as long as they were manufactured.

Once I get things set up again I'm going to have to try their CX bullets.

If nothing else I'll have to give the 190gr 30 cal and 250gr .375's a ride just for fun.

You may not be a "fan" of Hornady but you have to recognize they have done a lot of groundbreaking ballistics research WHILE producing amazing new products like the A-Tip bullets.

Well since they started using their new Doppler radar setup to calculate BC's I think theirs's are probably going to be as accurate as can be found in the industry.

I've dealt with them for decades and more than anything else it's their customer service I've grown to appreciate.

Hornady is also known for the most blatant embellishments in the business, when the 300 PRC was released they claimed it was the most superior long range 30 caliber cartridge ever designed ...

That claim is absolutely 100% false, but that didn't faze them from pushing their new cartridge

Facebook pages exploded with gundummies claiming how great the 300 PRC is and how it beats all other 30 caliber cartridges with it's pseudo superiority .....

It continues to this day, brass is selling at exponential rates and nobody can keep it in stock due to the hysteria about a cartridge that barely exceeds 300 Win Mag performance ....

The CX bullet is nothing more than the GMX altered slightly and re-marketed with a new ad campaign, targeting the copper bullet market that has grown fast and Hornady could no longer ignore it ...

They should have developed an entirely new bullet and completely scrapped the GMX design , unfortunately that didn't happen

we will soon see that the CX bullet doesn't do anything better than all the other copper bullets available now

some folks have already been finding that much is true ...

On the contrary I like and use a number of their bullets, one of my favorites is no longer made , see pic,

date on the two Barnes boxes shows when 10 boxes of the Hornady bullets were ordered from Natchez Shooters, got 3 left and won't part with them for anything !

l also really like the 285 gr ELD-M in my 338 Edge, bc is pretty good and accuracy is incredible, my chosen load for long range black bear hunting on the river valley mt sides when running the rivers on my jet boat

In my 300 LRH, the 212 gr ELD-X at 3250 fps with low single digit sd's and less than 1/2" groups is stellar performance in my book, personally loaded that bullet for a friends 300 RUM that he used to take a large bull moose at 1270 yards with exceptional bullet expansion ... penetration & weight retention was a pleasant surprise

The 140 gr Interlock has long been a favorite in my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser WW2 rifles and I bought them in bulk 1000 pc boxes from Natchez 30 years ago, still have a box left ..,

The 143 gr ELD-X at 3100 fps from my 6.5 Wolf Killer shoots tiny dime sized groups ... and I bought 1k of them initially and recently found 3 more boxes on a store shelf and snagged them without hesitation ...

I could go on & on... but the subject is the CX and it looks like it has been improved somewhat but not to the extent that Hornady is claiming

Am I wrong for pointing out the obvious ?

I have yet to come across a company that does that doesn't make their products sound like the best thing since sliced bread.

I get it that you are somehow connected to Hornady and are compelled to post glowing praise all the time, every time regardless of the facts and experience of other consumers ...... We all do that to a certain extent .

I don't have that ball n chain with bullet manufacturers as I don't have any binding connections with anyone .... my musings are simply what I see and what I personally experience.... I speak an open mind about every single manufacturer and their products I use, read about, observe & glean info from other users via their findings, whether it's YouTube vids or gun forum posts involving actual use ........ instead of opinion based on a heartfelt connection with a manufacturer

Not really, I'm just a big fan of the Interbond and the Hornady folks have always been very good to me when I called in with a question or issue.

Quality products and good customer service will always win praise from me even if it's a company I don't personally do any business with.

I've had equally good encounters with other bullet manuracturers and say so readily even one that I don't personally do any business with because I know the guy and know he puts out a good product and goes the extra yard to treat customers right.


As for Hornady, I'm real honest in both my praise and disappointments.

I won't shoot the interlocks anymore because they don't hold together well, as I've said in the past and as I said earlier I'm really disappointed in Hornady because they've given over so much of their R&D and manufacturing resources to their whiz bang new bullets like the ELD series, they've all but given up production of the Interbond which I feel is one of, if not the best bonded rifle bullet on the market.

They can't gain a following if they aren't available. I never remember seeing much being available even years ago. Not on the level of seeing plenty of weight and calibers to choose from in stock at the stores. Probably cuz they are hard to make like he said. For the first 20 years or so I was...

I almost hate to say it but Camera land has 6.5, 7mm, and 30 cal Interbonds in stock.

I'll probably go ahead and order 3 boxes of each just to make sure I don't run out anytime soon just in case I run into a problem getting the Perigrines which are produced in South Africa which means sometimes it can be a while between deliveries.

No worries, I have found a replacement for the 30 cal 180 gr Interbond via the Mead Industries 180 gr Bonded Ballistic Tip "Ioxus" bullet, had fantastic results on a moose last fall

Incidentally... Hornady farms out mass production of a lot of their bullet lines over to Mead Industries .... also, Mead have certainly done their fair share of producing many thousands of tons of bullets for other big name manufacturers as well

They know how to make a bullet and my experience with the Ioxus was very positive, hoping they will make a 7mm & 338 next
