I never criticize anyone in business for selling something for what they can. I however, make a mental note, and may I add my memory on things like this is like an elephant's, and I will never buy from a business with preditory practices. I always vote with my wallet!!!!
As do I. Back during the ammunition shortage, (the previous one), I was out of 308 reloading supplies, a hunting trip was coming up, and only one store, "T O" had the ammunition I wanted. "T O" not real name of store.
I paid the prices they wanted. I only enter their doors now if I am with a friend, who I have notified that they are skunks. During the "shortages" they only have a few boxes of each type of ammo. "When it is gone, it is gone" as they rush you into a decision. You see others purchasing the last of the size and type. Next day, the table still has, "That is the last of that ammunition they have. When it is gone, it is gone".
I do not run out of reloading supplies, and I use a few more different rifles.
My fault, but as you stated, my memory is at least as long as an elephants, and I do learn.

Could it be said that this is the RESULT of some other doings. Just like new automobile shortage. And gasoline shortage along with all the other fossil fuels that America depends on. Could it also be something other than a "chip shortage" and a climate change concern. It seems we are slowly but surely being duped and stripped of everything.
And as "one of THEM stated, you will have nothing and like it" This was prophesied this was going to happen.

Doesn't everyone know that if nobody bought anything for the next 6 months prices and supplies would go back to normal. The biggest issue currently is hoarders, and scalpers. Both of which should be tar and feathered.

I ve been shooting a lot of 70-75 gr 223 in last year! Can still consistently bang steel to 500 and get 2-3 times as many loads out of a pound of powder. Not to mention there's still brass laying on the ground 👍

I just got done talking with my son in law who, after a lot of searching, just found 4 boxes of 6.5 PRC cartridges on the shelf. Some guy had just grabbed 4 boxes right before him and my SIL got the last 4, or so he thought. He ended up talking to the guy who got the 4 boxes before him who told him he drives around to different sporting goods stores all day, buying up all the 6.5 PRC he can find and re-selling online for twice the $50/box the store was selling it for. The store limits purchases to 4 boxes so this guy takes all of it off the shelf and hides it around the store then goes out to his truck, changes clothes each time he comes back in to buy another 4 boxes. I can think of a good use for one well-placed 6.5 PRC round...

Im so desperate to find some of this stuff i might just call them up. Been searching high and low for an 8lb jug and i havent seen one in stock online for over 2-3 months.

These are just silly prices. Like when 9mm was going for .90/round. I have often wondered about shills "self bidding" on GB but dealers risk getting banned for that and then loose their ratings count if they just go set up another "shell" seller's account. I don't know how aggressively GB polices that but it would behoove them to watch for the same bidders on the same sellers' accounts patterns. That's why I tend to buy only from dealers with a significant number of A+ ratings. Sometimes that's even a private person. GB is an auction site so it's bidding competition. But a brick and mortar store is a different thing...Like you say they are dependent on repeat customers, and the best way to alienate them is to take advantage of them in times of shortages. People might have even protested out in front of Wallmart if they tripled the price of TP during that 1st wave of pandemic shortage. Instead they limited quantities of sales to individuals. Many LGSs did that too (with ammo, not TP 😂).

Powder is a commodity. It will go back down, rising production/delivery costs not withstanding. This just happened with live ammo. It is still going down, as the market hasn't become saturated to previous levels of customer satisfaction yet. Winter months should help with that.

I always feel more comfortable buying "infrastructure" than commodities, as they can usually be liquidated later if needed. You might want to sell that scope later, but you probably won't ever want to sell your ammo....Unless you quit the hobby or are just too old to shoot it.

Dang! This is not even funny on GB. Turns my stomach that bottom feeders will do this to the very people the rely upon to make a living. Crazy that 17 idiots (or maybe self price pushing) is bidding on a 8lb jug. At $900 I am looking a optics in my price range! Not powder!

Screw it. Shoot .22's
One local one mile range just added a 300 yard rimfire course. The gun club I'm a member of needs to get with the 21st century and let me shoot rimfire past 100 yards. But the other members already do so much stupid stuff they'll never allow it.

That's pretty devious. You didn't mention it but I hope your SIL reported him to the store manager. Might have even been worth it to buy 1 box from the guy, snap a picture of hime, then go to all the local LGSs and show the managers the picture. (Heck, post the pic on some social network and shame the dude!) Store managers don't really want that kind of behavior either because it cuts the rest of their customers out, which will probably result in them visiting less frequently and therefore buy fewer "other items" when they're there. I know when shortages became extreme, I just quit trying shot a little less and relied on my dwindling stash.

Yeah, kind like 5.7 x 28 cartridges for my PS90 carbine andRUGER 57 pistol. Pre-pandemic it was $26. to $30. a box of 50. Kinda steep but NOW it's $65. per little box 50!! I refuse to pay that.
So I hoard my supplying shoot 9 mm from my RUGER PC chassis carbine.
