Ravin 500 fps $$$$$ 😱 $3500!!

Ok, Would you pay $3500 for a xbow?

Awesome crossbow for sure , I almost plunked down the money for it one month ago, it took me two hours to try and make a choice between it and the Tenpoint Vengent S440, after shooting both in the basement of FIN, FUR, FEATHER , in Ashland Ohio I by a hair went with the Ten Point. I paid $ 2200 otd for the Ten Point, still a pile of cash in my opinion. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

Might be cheaper to make hollow metal arrows filled with gunpowder and some kind of striker on the notch…you know..,a bow-fired rocket for cheap. Wonder how many fps you get?
I sold all my other crossbows, had three, for what reason I don't know, I'm good with one now. Had spare change to boot for extra broadheads and arrows. Now Ten Point comes up with a 505 fps, no way , I'm done.

Or like a booster? Have the arrow rub against a striker on release and have it ignite propellant to "boost" the velocity? Like RATO system for military planes on short runways? I like where this is going!
Exactly what i meant haha. Started out as a joke but now the 11 year old boy in me is contemplating this more seriously haha

HOLY HELLO no way Jose. I am freaking still struggling with $1300 for a stock Savage. Literally stressing and have lost sleep over a custom that will be 5k with scope brass dies powder bullets etc ready to hunt when it's done.

I wouldn't want the Raven R4, I held one. They are front heavy and balance seems off. They are pretty heavy to just stock. Add all the other stuff to them and it gets worse. There are a few brands on their heels 👠 for two thirds the cost.

If I upgrade it will be because of balance, overall weight and how quiet they are. At least Raven set their prices before Covid was invented

I had sticker shock at the 1500 generally charged for the Ravin R10 when I was looking a couple years ago, I found one at a little less and got it. Not knowing how committed I would be to crossbows, I did not consider models costing several times as much,

After a long career of archery hunting and competitions all over the eastern half of US , my neck finally succumbed to disc and nerve damage from 100 arrows a day .
I bought a ridgeline 400fps reverse limb crossbow last year. Shoots great ! Quietly (for a crossbow) shoots a 400gr bolt at 386fps. I cant imagine spending 2800.00 more for a hundred fps increase . I doubt the trajectory difference will be substantial enough to make any difference out to 50yds. A bolt has a lot of drag and the faster you send it , the higher the drag will be, slowing it down at a faster rate. There comes a point of diminishing returns with a bolt or arrow. I spent years studying the effects of velocity on trajectory with an arrow. You hit a wall around 340 where it just isnt worth the extra effort for the very limited return . The raven crossbows are definitely cutting edge, high quality equipment. The speed race going on in the crossbow world has already reached its practical limit. Its just bragging rights at this stage of the velocity game.
Not sure i totally agree but trajectory is better/flatter. So less vertical elevation needed for arrows to hit limbs on it way to the target. Atleast where i hunt in ground blinds more often than not now a days. Also time to target is quicker. Might not be huge but its there.

I have 3 CB now. My slowest is my Excalibur Mega 405 shooting at 386 fps. Scorpyd slp 165 shooting at 400 fps and then my 10pt vapor shooting at 456 fps. There are stands i dont take my Excalibur to do to distances shot being longer with more possible obstructions. Jmho

But love them. And maybe looking to add another or change crossbows up. But i like the speed especially for nervous NJ deer:)

I wouldn't knock anyone for having one…could I afford one? Yes…but I'd never pay that for a crossbow. I picked up a Killer Instinct for my son that shoots 405 supposedly with the right arrows for under $300. It's a really nice bow especially for the money.

Would it be nice to have a smaller framed crossbow like this? Sure. More speed? Yeah of course. $3,200 more? They can keep it. Sort of sad how everything is moving toward a rich man's sport. Just like everything else, outdoor activities are starting to become out of reach for the average man that before could kind of keep up with the latest and greatest…now it's a decision. Do a buy a crossbow or a used car? It's sad really

Not really, the latest innovations are always more expensive as they have to pay for the R&D but it doesn't take long for those advancements to trickle down to the less expensive models. For example my $1,000 crossbow that I bought 9 years ago which was only 20 fps behind the fastest at the time is now 70 fps slower than your $300 crossbow.

These days you can buy a $400 combo rifle that is generally more accurate with better glass than the top of the line hunting rifles of years past.

I've never had a lot of money, but I have paid attention to what works and what doesn't and how cost effective things can be. We used to make bows out of saplings when we were kids. They would last a day and we'd make a new one. Good enough for rabbits and playing around. A friend/mentor gave me a crossbow a couple of years ago. It's a killer instinct 355. It's a great bow. Killed a pile of deer with it. I don't see the need to go faster, but I don't shame the guys who want to. I have shot a 400+ model and it was nice, but they seem to have some durability problems above 400. Limbs break, strings wear out, etc... 400+ is a tall order for a bow. That string has to move as fast as the arrow and then come to a very abrupt stop. The string also stops the limbs, and that is no small feat. The cams, pins, and bushings take a beating. It has to be perfectly tuned to last more than 100 shots. The cheaper models are not always as smooth or as tuned as the more expensive ones, but it works the other way too. Sometimes you are just paying for a name or the speed, just like other things.

I can get a lot done with the money they want for some of those bows. 200 fps kills deer as well as 500 if you put it in the right place.

The new, faster crossbows have also put downward pressure on the street prices of the earlier models. For example, you can save on an R10 compared to a couple years ago, and it is even today a fast, capable, high quality bow.
