I have been trying to decide on a route to go for a new rifle for my brother but can't come to a final conclusion so I am looking for help. I am not sure whether to go with a higher-end factory rifle such as a fierce or a 2020 waypoint but also whether to go for a custom build either by me selecting parts and having a gunsmith assemble or having a gunsmith completely do the entire build. The budget I have roughly planned out for just the rifle is $3,600.

The caliber he is most wanting to go with would be the 7 suam but that can also change depending on if it is chambered in the rifle or not.

The rifle would be mainly elk and deer hunting in the mountains so keeping it light is important. I would also like for the barrel to be threaded so if he wants to throw a suppressor on the end of it he can.

I would like to see what your guys' opinions are for suggestions on either a higher-end factory rifle or for doing a custom build?

If your brother isn't overly into shooting and possibly reloading I would just go with a well respected production rifle. I'd start by considering a Tikka and go up from there.

Springfield still has some bad feedback regarding quality and customer support so I'd stay away from them.

Call these guys and ask them to make this again:

$105 under budget. What do I win?

rifle or for doing a custom build?
Personally...As stated above I'd go Weatherby ,Fierce, Tikka in a standard 7mm mag. Save the time on a custom and have a quality gun in hand now instead of waiting a year to see how something else is going to turnout! Just me.

I have a Seekin Havek 6.5 PRC and love it. Beautiful to look at and shoots as good as it looks. The down side is that you may have to wait 6 months to get it but like all good things are worth waiting for.

Build it yourself, you can purchase the custom action, stock can be inlet for the action and bottom metal of choice, see Grayboe, AG composites, McMillan, Manners, etc. with the custom action like Kelbly Atlas Tactical you can purchase a shouldered pre-fit, then a trigger can all be had for less than 3k. You would need the action wrench, torque wrench, vise to hold the barrel and be setup for building your own from now own out.
