Following your reasoning, the guys who are making rifle kills @ 800+ yards are also making the 100+ yard bow kills and are probably the same guys who are catching the 60 lb striped bass. Sooooo, I'd still like to hear their stories.

I know lots of guys who have made 800+ yard rifle kills, including myself, but I've yet to meet anyone who has made a 100+ yard bowkill. If you guys are out there; let's hear your stories.

And while I'm not too sure about the chocolate thing, I am sure that there is often a fudge factor included in many incredible stories. That's why the BIGGEST one is the "one that got away".
You eastern boys can say what you want about lying about the range but when you hunt in the west and for me that hunts in the desert you have to be able to shoot out to 80 yards. I have a range in my back yard that i can shoot out to over a 100 yards if I choose to. I personally will not shoot pass 80 yards unless I have a arrow in a animal and then that rule goes out the window and as long as I have arrows in my quiver i will be sending them.

I help in a local shop and shoot competitively and people just don't practice enough some people shouldn't be shooting at 20 yards but others groups at 60 beat those of some at 20. You have to practice and know your equipment even more so than a riffle.

If you are referring to my post; I never said that a 100yd archery kill was impossible. It would just be such an extraordinary feat that I'd like to see and hear the stories. When you talk to avid crossbow hunters they will often tell you that they don't recommend shooting at game at over 50-60 yds because it is easy for a deer to duck an arrow due to the long flight time of the arrow. These are the same guys who regularly shoot at 100yds at targets and get exceptional groups with their modern crossbows. Most of these guys are also launching arrows in excess of 400 ft/sec.
BTW - Congratulations on your numerous LR bow kills.

Don't get me I wrong , I would love to have a 20 yarder but just haven't had the opportunity yet but I hope its coming.

If your shooting is up for it, I'd suggest some of you more "eastern" whitetail hunters worried about string jump at 20-30yds give hunting a more open area a chance. Out here our Coues are known to be very high strung, and I know many very successful hunters that prefer 50-60yd shots as they tend to duck the string less at distance.
Try arrows at 7.5gr per pound of draw weight for quieter setups rather than building as light and fast as possible.

55 yard mule deer doe. I had walked back to the trail and my buddy was sitting there in his truck. On the other side of the trail was a doe with her head down feeding. I stopped and ranged her. My buddy was looking at me like what are you doing. He did not know she was there. Don't worry, he was not in danger at all. I pulled up my bow and let it fly. The very second I released the arrow, she stepped forward. I hit her a little back but it was a complete pass through and she didn't go 20 yards and crashed. I shot her with a 125 grain 4 blade Muzzy and my Bowtech Tomkat. 60 yards is as far as I have ever practiced on a consistent basis. There is a 80 yard target where I practice. I'll probably work on that this year.

79yd whitetail doe, back before the wolves had everything chewed up we could get 7 B tags in my hunt area.
Killed 5 that day with my step son. The Subaru Legacy was a mess. Butcher was happy though
He learned to drive and sharpened his tracking skills in the same day.

Now I don't advocate taking extreme long shots with a bow but I have done it and I do practice. Last year was 65 yrds, year before was 95 yrds. When I practice I shoot only broadheads and can put 80% in a 9" plate(100 yds). You may think you you'll have to clean your boots after reading this, be that as it may, there's not much difference between long range bow and long range rifle.
You and I are on the same page. Keep shooting

My longest Archery kill was in 1984 just north of Billings,Montana near the little town of Molt, had returned home with my son from hunting Mulies and decided to go out as it was a perfect afternoon,no wind and was about 45-50 out. Was driving the roads and spotted a herd,,then went looking for the land owner, found him and asked if I could try to get him, he said yes if he could go along,I said yes,we went out,the herd had moved to the other side of the road they were about 120 to 130 yards out in the stubble, I knew I could stalk a little closer as they were looking at me but could not tell what was going on,as the Sun was about 20 minutes from starting to set and was shinning right in there eye's,,I made it about 30 yds. on my hands and knees, the rancher was right behind me,I told hem I was going for the shot ,he said you can't hit him at this distance ,he's close to 100 yds away,I said I think I can , Stayed on my Knees was shooting the then New Martin Cougar Mag at 80#s with dual cams, I put my 60 yd pinon his heart and looked where the 80 yd pin was then put the 60 yd pin a little higher where the 80 had been and let the string loose,I was watching the arc of the shaft and I knew he was mine,it hit him where the heart should be , He squealed stud on his hind legs like a stallion pawed at the air took 3bounds and was dead,The Rancher said Holy **** have never seen a shot like that in my life, I said I probably will never make a shot like that again! I never have either. He was a old male with 17" horns and was beautiful. I was shooting a 28" 2213 with 3 4" feathers left wing ana 110 gr. Zwickey Eskimo on a swaged shat. We both paced it off came up with 113 paces which made it about 96 yards. Hardhead

Truely an incredible feat and a good read for all of us. CONGRATULATIONS !

8 year old whitetail doe. 114 yards
3 year old satellite bull. 105 yards.
Mule deer buck 92 yards.
Multiple deer and elk from 50-75 yards.
All lasered yardages.
Prepare and practice for longer shots. It makes me far more confident in those longer shots.

I have a hoyt crx32 set at 74lb. 31.5" draw. Arrows weigh 475gr and go 292fps on my chrony. Amazing fast and accurate setup that makes me look much better than I am. Longest shot I've taken at animal was 37 yards. at a woodchuck. 28 at deer. Zero missed or wounded. My single pin goes to 95 yards and I've played around shooting a bit further. I'm very confident I could hit a stationary target out to 100, but the time it takes to get there is reeeeeally long. Plenty of time for an animal to move completely out of the way before it got there and the downward angle is pretty severe at that distance. Not to mention the slightest bit of breeze blows it a foot or more off the target. Long range rifle shots are not like long range bow shots. Sure u can just plug numbers in for dope, but a bullet gets there before the sound does. A 70yard bow shot gives a full second of reaction time between "thunk" and "thwak". Man, that's an eternity to a prey animal. He gone. Or worse, he gutshot. Drop of my arrow with my pin set at 27 yards (my point blank setting so I don't have to adjust the pin out to 35yards) is almost 100 inches! Double that at 100 yards. At 105 yards, I'd have to hold 200 inches over my 27 yard pin! 17 feet! If theres a tree between us, that arrow would hit branches 20 feet off the ground on it's way out. A 4mph breeze blows it completely off the deer. Cmon. and My bow is very fast with plenty of weight compared to most. Dead calm, wide open shot on a huge target like a bull elk, I'd take a 60 yard shot. Maybe. And itd have to last light on the last day without the chance of getting closer.
