Yeah, MPA put it on a short action, otherwise I would've just rebarrled like you said.
Seems like it would be easier to start new then pay to re-action and re-barrel.

If you build a 300PRC take your time and plan it out properly. Twist rate and reamer are critical when planning this to be able to shoot the heavies and also avoid the dreaded clickers and heavy bolt lift some are experiencing on 3-4x reloaded brass. The 300PRC AW2 reamer designed by Alex Wheeler has solved this issue. Good luck with your new build and don't sell the 6.5 as you'll regret it on down the road.
Not me..I went from 308 to 6.5 Creedmoor to 6.5 PRC to 300PRC.
I'm glad I did. I want to shoot in 2 Mile.
I do still love my 6.5 PRC to hunt with along with my 7mm Rem Mag.
I've sold lots of guns I don't use or if their purpose got replace by another it goes the way side. Can't hold onto everything for ever.

I bought a ruger 300 prc. Purchased a proof carbon fiber barrel, nightforce scope, beast muzzle brake, timney trigger, carbon fiber heat shield. Love it. I am confident in the rifle and am working on my personal long range shooting. I am very confident at shooting game at 500 yards and looking to extend my range out further. Most would not be impressed with 500 yards but I am not in a rush and am working on my personal skill level. I am using hornady eldx 212grain with retumbo powder (72+ grains). I have extended my bullet seating in the brass to be more closely engage the rifling..

Can someone explain to me about the clicker I keep hearing about, is it when you pull the trigger and nothing but a click, like a weak spring in the bolt or are you stating something else as a "clicker"?

I would go with the 30 nosler they are some of the best shooting rifles around in my 2 cents
The clicker is hard bolt lift and occurs after 4,5 reloads on most brass. It occurs when the brass is not smoothly extracted from the chamber and it pops loose. It happens at the top of the bolt stroke. The reason it happens is the chamber and dies are so close in tolerance that the brass is not resized enough when reloading. Do a search on here and you will find some very detailed threads. This way we won't derail this OPs thread. Here is one below.

I think my decision between PRC and SM may have just been made ... Worst case scenario is firing actual 300 PRC ammo in the SM ... the SM will allow me to 'download' to lower pressure and get same velocity as the PRC ... but with better brass life and have the tank available for higher if ever...

THIS^ My 11-12lb 300prc has taught me a lot about keeping my form when shooting. As someone who has never struggled to shoot .5moa groups and tighter at 100yd I am embarrassed to say that I have pulled shots up to .5-1moa high at 100yd as I've learned to shoot the big magnums.
To the OP: Get a good rear bag. Sink the rifle hard on the bag every time you shoot, firing hand grip consistency is very important and don't wrap your thumb, consistent cheek weld pressure. Front rest is important also but typically doesn't present issue as often. Buy a good muzzle brake, there are several. I like the Ti Pro 3 on my 300. For my rear bag I'm using the LRO Hunter's wedge with Git Lite along with the bottom bag also. It's awesome. Anyway you probably know all of this already.
Also if you are in a hurry to build and shoot 300PRC right now you will be waiting. Powder is hard to find and quality brass is even harder. Hornady will get the job done to start however. N570, N568/565, RL26. I bought my first jug of N570 3 months before I had a single piece of my build. Anyway it's a awesome cartridge for long range shooting and hunting. If I were only shooting steel at 1000 I'd stick with the 6.5 PRC. But for game, especially elk, at 1000 I pick the 300. Have fun!

Why not go with what your heart desires? Life's too short. Maybe the question is what made you choose the 6.5 over the 300 in the first place? Both are great rounds but outside of probably lower recoil I see little advantage in the 6.5 over the 300. Did you feel that you could be more accurate with the 6.5 or was it a component issue? Again they both will be awesome but I wonder if the answer to your question can't be found in your original reasoning to go 6.5 in the first place. For what it's worth I'd say go get that 300 PRC and then you'll never have another second thought.
