Hunting Rifle: Anyone Else Have No Desire for a Silencer?

At 21 I went deaf in my right ear for a week due to sitting next to a buddy when he shot a deer. That week was one of the longest of my life wondering if I was ever going to get my hearing back. I have been religiously wearing hearing protection while hunting ever since but 5 years ago I bought my first suppressor and now I have 4.

I honestly find shooting suppressed so much more enjoyable that I end up shooting my suppressed rifles probably 90% of the time anymore. The only rifles that get shot unsupressed are my old rifles that I can't thread.

That makes more sense. It's quiet enough for a few shots. That sounds nice for hunting.
I guess the best way to put it is that it makes my 6.5 PRC sound like a supersonic .22, quiet enough you really don't need ears but if you do it long enough then it will start to bother you.

That being said I have done plenty of range trips by my self shooting 50+ rounds and never felt the need to put my headphones on.

Everywhere I hunt big game with a rifle required long hikes and sometimes long shots. Don't want to pack any extra weight, or give up and velocity for that one or two shots I'm going to take.

Now, non big game rifles are a different story.

Lol I guess it didn't come out quite right. No I don't think anyone should be forced to do anything. At least a case could be made of a suppressor actually being a health benefit as opposed to a mask. I do prefer a can sometimes just depends on what and how I'm hunting. Most hunting ranges the short barrel really won't matter so why not. Long range I'm usually running a long barrel anyway so what's a few more inches.
I like being able to swap from can you brake. Love them both just nice not needing hearing protection sometimes.

Good appology.

I see a lot of folks are putting silencers on their hunting rifles, even sacrificing ballistic performance by shortening barrels.

Anyone else prefer their hunting rifle to not have a silencer? Maybe I'm old school but I don't have muzzle brakes or silencers on my hunting rifles.
I'm old and can't hear a **** thing so I don't need one. It might be fun to fiddle around with. Maybe.

I have an buddy that bought a 26" barreled man bun that's threaded. He was very proud of the suppressor he bought to put on it. When he showed it to me I remarked:

"When did you take up pole vaulting?"

He wasn't impressed with my comment nor did he answer the question. Looks like it has a 36" barrel. 🤣🤣🤣

Suppressors being NFA items is exemplary of feelings and perceptions driving laws, not facts. Look at DOJ/FBI crime data for the past few decades and find me one example of a legally manufactured suppressor being used criminally.
Hell, even the UK sells "moderators" over the counter as heath items.

That being said, I don't own one and shot precision rifle competitively for a long time without a can. Half deaf from years of riding Harleys, running heavy equipment, rock concerts as a kid, and all my hunting with no ear pro, (just used foamies when I was burning 2-3 barrels a year competing). If suppressors were as cheap and easy as they should be I'd bet my tinnitus would be much better.
