?? Wonder if I made a bad choice

I did manage to tag out yesterday evening on this guy with same bullet and it did leave a devastating hole and deer dropped in his tracks…however I did aim at high shoulder.
That's a dandy. Some of themm dudes shooting them bambi doe with 300s and 338s ought'a take a glance at that deer of your's, so they know what a real whitetail looks like.

Misses happen.

I have a buddy who has been practicing all summer out past 1K. Very accurate rifle, load, and shooter.
On his Coues hunt, somehow, 4 misses at 400 yards on the biggest Coues he has seen.
Came back, checked and eliminated every possibility. He went out and crushed the steel again.
Then, just had an elk hunt, and a big bull was missed at 280.
We think we have the issue figured out now though. I hope. Confidence is now pretty low.

Just to to let you guys know, he taste **** good too.

Theres one thing I've learned its hard to gag down humble pie because I've had too.
I hope the pencil through, target Berger naysayers learn a lesson DON' T ASSUME anything unless your there or see evidence.
Nobody's perfect and theres no perfect bullet either.
I put 3 VLDs through a broadside bull elk once and all 3 of them were killing shots that penciled in and out. He died right there but still, not what I was hoping for. I do still shoot Berger but not those ones.

I had the same results with Accubonds in my 300 WSM on a bull elk. All 3 penciled through his lungs. Like yours, he died where he stood and I was surprised with the lack of performance. Goes to show it can happen with any bullet

I have no problem people taking some does outta the herd, id much prefer they do that than bang a spike or forkie if they want meat.

Hunters want big racks, yet many knock out the babies, so no big bucks.

We shot at 8 pointers and bigger, it's what we are accustomed to. Grew up hunting in Mexico and down there you can't kill anything smaller than an 8 point buck, got used to it.

Actually, taking out a young buck is the way to go- you're only removing a single deer. Whereas, removing a doe removes multiple deer for years to come and this impacts the buck recruitment to a much greater degree than removing a yearling buck. Now, if you have a very unbalanced population that is at the carrying capacity of the land, removing does makes more sense.

Not removing a dry old doe vrs a young buck that has potential to be a 140-160 some day.
You can't kill the big ones skinning the little ones
