STILL : No Sierra GK bullets!!

Yep LOTS of TMK but no TGK's at least not in .284 or .308 Glad as all **** I bought decent but not as much as I wished of SGK's and SMK's.

Anybody know if the tipped matchkings will work reliably as hunting bullet?

Yes but very messy. I haven't used it but there's a thread on rokslide with lots of pictures

I went the route of switching from Lapua Scenars to JLKs in the 260, it was unbelievable with consistency in accuracy on steel all year and devastating on the whitetail this fall. Exit side of a heart shot 135 grain JLK out of the 260

Should add I just did a short search of my favorite suppliers and found ZERO boat tailed .308 180 bonded or C&C grain hunting bullets. Did however find some Hornadys a few days ago at my local BP.
Again thank God I long ago adopted buy a minimum 500 of any rifle bullet I know works well in my rifle.

What made you decide on the 135? Any experience with the 130?

If your blaming Sierra your barking up the wrong tree. I know a guy. They are doing all they can. They are facing supply shortages like everyone else and they have contracts to supply bullets they have to honor. And yes they have their own line of ammo now. Like it or not the reloading public is taking a back seat. It's just the way it is. There is so much demand it's going to take some time to catch up. Pushing pause on a major economy is no small thing.

I would have thought that with hunting season here and the PRS season mostly over (I think) that they would have ramped up production of their game bullets. Hornady is getting their interlocks out there and the eldx Barnes has been making their hunting bullets some. But I haven't seen a game king in long time either!

FWIW there are other proven C&C bullets available if you really need them.
I also am unabashedly adducted to Sierra MK and GK and are aching to try TGK.
Will say I have reloaded/shot Barnes, Speer, Hornady and Nosler and Nosler BT's and SGK shot lights out the best out of all my rifles, especially my 300wsm with a slight but negligible accuracy edge going to the 180 NBT.
The performance of the NBT is why I so badly wish to try a Sierra Tipped GK.

In my eyes their tree has a 'coon in it and it screwed the pooch. They could have held off on their new ammo to get some product out to the people, especially before hunting season. The reloading public was their bread and butter since the inception of the company and built that business for them. The new management doesn't care about that or if we get what we need from them or not, because they have the contracts that you mentioned and are still selling bullets. Eventually those will be filled and they'll get around to trying to service the reloading public. Like someone else said, at least the other manufacturers are getting some stuff out to us. Maybe not as much as we want, but they're making an attempt. I'm sure they are seeing the same shortages of materials as everyone else, but they're trying at least. I know one of the former ballistic techs and he retired because of the way things were being managed under the new management at Sierra. Yeah, I'm barking up the right tree and I won't let that 'coon screw this pooch. Like I said before, the consumer sets the supply and demand, and eventually it will be our turn.

JLK makes vld bullets, they're very good. I shoot the 135 very accurately in my 65 saum at 2950fps. I'm using a g7 of 320 to to match drops at 1k yards. Shot a big body mule deer at 670y last week, still had excellent expansion and exit with impact right behind the soulder.

I have a friend that works for an ammo company and they're cranking out between 500k and 750k per day. Components are hard to come by for them. About 2 months ago their contracts were filled for the year. Some of the bigger names they contract with haven't had ammo or brass made for a couple of years. Not only does this company do domestic contracts but they also have international contracts. Your runtime and resources are going to overseas orders. Sucks but not much a guy can do but complain.

When the salad days come again just remember the past.
