Pheasant load of choice?

i dont see the lead streaks in the meat with nickle plated.
i keep forgetting about steel, i have some steel duck and geese loads but never tried them.
Hmmmm thanks for reply. I better look closer I guess I never seelead streaks in my life either. Even with soft lead Wal mart 100 packs.

Wild South Dakota birds, full choke Federal 1 3/8 copper plated 4 shot 1500fps, leave your O/U 20 gauge at home. Pen raised hunting preserve chickens, anything will work, sometime you don't even have to shoot them, the dogs will bring them back to you live......
I just noticed this. What load do you make or buy that actually produces these velocities with that weight?

I start with 1 1/4 oz 7 1/2s the first couple weeks of season. I go to 6's and then 5's as the season goes on. I hunt over a shorthair. I reload my own with longshot. Everything is 1 1/4 oz. loads. I use previously fired AA hulls I have left over from trap shooting.
Sounds similar to mine. 29.0 of Longshot, 550gr of #5, just a curly under 1300fps out of 28". I am on my last bag of Rem RP12 wads, and cannot find one that holds the shot in the cup or patterns even close to it. Well the Rem SP12 and I have been out of those for almost two years. What wad are you using to get 1.25 oz and a good crimp on that hull?

Off the shelf Federal Premium.
Thanks I will have to find some to try. I have not found one single load even the crazy advertised 3" 1 1/8 steel to hit 1500 over a chronograph. I need to keep looking it sounds like.

Looks like a good solid load. 12-1250 with a 1.25 has the velocity to reach and is still in the good pattern area. Only my guns I'm speaking of seem to have the best patterns 11-1300fps. Seems the closer to 1300 the quicker they start blowing big holes in them.

With pen raised birds you can use about anything. I shoot 4 shot on wild birds, which makes up 99% of my hunting. I like Kent and Fiocchi.

Some questions:
1) over pointers, flushers or with drivers & blockers?
2) released birds or wild birds?
3) Early season or late?
I hunt over my 2 GSP's using a 28 ga trigger plate gun loaded with 1 Oz of 7.5's thru a IC choke in the right barrel, 1 Oz 6's thru a Mod choke in my left barrel during the early season. I kill most birds with the right barrel. Late season I go up one size in each barrel. I kill most late season birds with the 6's in the right barrel. Good luck, enjoy the hunt and the prep's leading to it.
