I have a vortex viper hslr 4-16x50 and have been looking at the razor lht in 3-15x42. I like the lht in 3-15x50 as well but it's currently only offered in mrad and I would rather stay with moa. The question I have is the glass noticeably better in the razor? The illuminated reticle doesn't sway me either way mostly wondering if folks who have experience with both thinks it is a worth while upgrade or not? Thanks for any input

It's not that much better than the viper. Probably not for the money. The vipers are good scopes.
The razors you get a little more color and definition. Mechanically they share some things. The amg is pretty much made all in house at Vortex, if you're referring to that line of razor.

I'm looking at the LHT line

I also thought the same thing. It save just a little going to the 42. And I probably won't notice a huge loss going to it from the 50
Here's a picture of my setup with the 42. Check out how low it's mounted. Really helps with the cheek weld.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

The Razor has slightly better glass. If you want a new scope willing to pay 75 percent more for a little better definition tiny color increase for my eyes get the Razor. Like the VX5 and VX6 for me. If I could get the reticle I wanted in the 5 no way would I pay the extra for the 6. For me smart marketing does not equal the cost/benefit in the Vortex/Leupold in those scopes. I would spend the difference on upgrading other scopes, binos, spotter, or other things.

That's kinda the impression I got looking through a few in stores. But it's very hard to tell anything about a scope in a store to me. I've got a couple vipers I really like. Haven't had a razor and don't currently need another scope. But I did have this scope planned for an upgrade on another rifle but a new toy came along. Good excuse for a new scope but just wanting opinions on justifying the cost and I appreciate everyone's feedback

How far are you shooting? Is this for hunting, bench, or both?

Lately the only models by Vortex to consider are the Razor. There have been some reliability issues with the ones below lately. A large Optics sponsor here recently stopped carrying them altogether. I've got some of the older Vipers and PSTs and have had good luck with them, I can't say that about the newer ones though.
