Bergers or Hornady

Hi Brent ... My Bergara barrel is 6 groove/ 1:8 twist. Also, I tried RL-26 / H1000 / N565 and got the "tumbling" with all of them. I know from other blogs I am not the only one experiencing this, but, I cannot isolate it to a cause.

By the way, the target distance was 100 yards, and the loads were not hot.

Have you confirmed your twist rate, if you haven't I would do the tight patch method if nothing else.

Overall length means nothing consistent ogive on the bullet means everything.

I agree 100%. Even reamed my comparator to 0.256" so that I would be measuring the exact spot that touches the lands on my 6.5. Could not accept comparator manufacturer tolerances. (McMasterCarr $25)

What I found was when the overall was the same the base to ogive was very near the same and the overall is a quicker easier measurement check. I understand I wasn't getting down to perfection, I was just doing a reasonable sort of 500 ELDMs for my purposes. Kinda 90/10 thumbnail look. Was shocked to find a few per hundred 0.007" longer and shorter, all the rest within 0.001". I did the same on burgers and found them to be much more consistent. Still shooting up the ELDMs and having a blast doing it.

Berger here too. I can only think of 2 times a rifle has not loved a Berger. As opposed to about 30% for Hornady in my experience.

I have no preference to bullet brand. The rifle will always tell me what it prefers.

I've shot an awful lot of bullets over the years. When picking a bullet for whitetail hunting the selection is nearly irrelevant. Just put an appropriate bullet in the right place and you'll have a freezer full of venison. Shot placement far outweighs other considerations IMO.

I shoot a lot of hornady for paper and steel but I use nothing but hammers now for hunting. They are accurate and super easy to load for. Never failed on game.
But for shooting steel or paper they are a bit pricey. Also liked the cutting edge laser.

Bergers and bergers. Tried the eld's for a year. Didn't like their performance. So I pulled the plastic tips out of them and screwed a little fish eye lag screw in them and made fishing weights out of all of them. Worked dang good for that.

Your not the first to suggest it. Currently I'm a law abiding citizen. Time will tell. And yes I have really bright Rigid Industries light bar on my SD.
