101 Hammers in .308 ?

I have a small sample of 101 Hammers in .30 Cal.
These are designed for the .300blk I believe.

I expect they can be used in a .308.

I would like to load them in .308, not necessarily at subsonic speeds but as a light recoil load.

Has anyone done this or tested the projectile s ?

My brother has a Browning X Bolt, its light and has a sharp kick. We would like to have one go - to load for hogs, generally a large pig might only be 80kg in our areas .

No one has yet forwarded any data on the 308 for the spreadsheets. However, based upon testing done, the 101s should do well in the 308. Just keep velocity down in the 3200 range or so.

Just curious, why would one want to keep the velocity down to 3200 range. I thought these hammers liked to scream! Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know the owners of Hammer says impact speeds need to be at least 1800 fps. Maybe hit up Zen Archery or Butter Bean. I'd run them as fast as as your friend can handle the recoil.

These 101gn were intended for a blackout so they may do ok at low velocity.

I'm not looking for subsonic, we can't have suppressors so no point even developing a subsonic load for fun.

3000fps might be ok in .308 for him, reasonable trajectory and I was told to expect very little recoil from these projectiles.

I have hammers in 124gn .30 and 101 7mm , I plan to try some of these and see if I get really good velocities

I used them at 3,400 fps on a buck and a doe. Very effective. Buck:40 yards. Doe:75 yards.

That bullet will definitely help with recoil. I'm shooting he .284 101 grain in my 7 STW and the difference is very noticeable.

What powders are you considering? I can run some QL data to help get you safely in the ballpark.

ar2208=Varget. Using in 7mm-08
Currently using Ar2213 for the .280ai .

I have some Win 760 was going to use that in .22-250 sometime.

For now my focus is a low recoil load for his .308, I only have a handful of 101s

I'm going to try get stupid fast out of my .280ai or my .300wm to see what they do.

I have a chronograph now but no ballistics program.

I have mostly Nosler BT on hand, but Hammer is the word on the street.

Don't download too much. Suggest medium loading for the Hammers.

I have hammers in 124gn .30 and 101 7mm , I plan to try some of these and see if I get really good velocities

I think you'll be happier with the 124. Plenty of kills with the 101, but the better penetration of the 124 will pay off in the long run in my opinion.

Sorry it took a while to respond. Been busy.
We've tested the 101s up to 4400 fps. The 101 has very little shank for penetration relative to it's size. At hyper velocity, the bullet basically collapses in on itself. It was described as a "flying ashtray".
At hyper velocity, the permanent wound cavity radiates outward moreso than inward in the classic Hammer style. The bullet basically becomes a bomb - and does excessive meat damage, again very unlike regular Hammer performance.
This is why we recommend holding back on velocity with this particular Hammer. I arbitrarily chose 3200 as a recommended general speed - because we haven't tested them down that "slow"!!!!
Sounds like they work fine at 3400. Remember, the 101 was developed for the 300 Blackout, and speeds in the mid 2000's.
Would love to have load data for the 101 in the .308! I'll post it to share with others
If you're chasing speed, the 124 does fine in performance up to 4200 fps
