i was wondering if anyone has hunting opinions of this round, I just picked up a 7mm barrel (8 twist) and trying to decide if I want to have it reamed for the 195s. I would be atleast be going with a 175ish bullet weight.
Is the terminal performance good with the 195s. Will use hammer bullets also.

I am looking at a 28" finished length, wonder if I can hit 3100 FPS muzzle velocity, not a must with it, just wondering if I can with out burning the brass hot! I know each barrel will be different.

Just finishing up load development. Same bullet 195 berger. 7 mm mag. I am at 5000 feet elevation and temperature was about 70. Signs of pressure after 64 gr. of IMR 8133. You might know, but it is a direct replacement for Retumbo. I went as high as 69 grains. And I ruined my primer pockets on my cheap cases. Trying to find quality brass. It is tough. However less than half inch groups at 100 m. 10,000 to 20,000 off Lands. Running 2814 on the muzzle velocity. Plenty of terminal energy even at 900 yards. Hope that helps. Take care cliffhunter!

My daughter busted a WV doe in youth season the other day with a 190hybrid Berger from our new 7rem mag build ( left muzzle at 2900 in front of H1000). Terminal performance was impressive at 311yds. Bullet hit a rib going in, made exit hole near 2"x4"..

Different bullet I realize, but I would think they'd be similar performance.

28 Nosler, even in a SAAMI chamber, should be able to hit 3100fps when run hot in a 28" 1:8".
I run 3084fps in a load 1.5gr off max w. IMR8133 in my 26" 28 Nosler. I have loaded several different 28 Noslers over 3100 in 26" barrels.
IMR8133, N570, RL33 are the top go-to powders for the 28 Nosler. Retumbo gets you close too.

They work great. I've witnessed 3 elk go down from a 28 Nosler running 195 EOL's. None made it more than 25 yards. Closest one was 200 yards, longest was 475 yards. I found the remains of the bullet on the 200 yard shot. Probably 40% remaining. Completely broke the near side shoulder, destroyed the heart and did significant damage to the lungs then got lodged under the hide on the opposite side. I have never heard of or seen a 195 EOL not do its job, but I would say to always clean the tips on Berger's. It is NOT a myth. Examine and clean the tips on rounds you intend to take hunting.

I get 3050 fps out of my 28 nosler with a sammi spec throat with RE33 and a fed 215 primer. Barrel length is 26"

195's are fantastic also in the wind.
