I stood in front of a pack of does last week. Nanny stood there looking right TOWARD me. Maybe 10 yards. She didn't see squat. I froze in place as she continued to stare and eventually ease on into the wood line with her 9 little ladies in tow. Wind, shadows, scent control and mostly experience rule the day. I'm sure someone will chime in about their similar experience, but hey, the woods are a magical place if you let the magic happen!

I've killed 3 of my biggest mature deer sitting behind a hay bale in the middle a cornfield with no camo on and my golf cart parked behind me

My wife and I had a doe and fawn run to us as we walked from our ground blinds across the field to the truck. Blaze orange vest & hats, with muzzleloaders slung these two deer got within 6ft of us and stood there. The fawn was black where there is typically white also. We looked at them and my wife and I started laughing about it all. I suspect they were being hand fed by a neighboring crazy guy on the adjacent property.

I always use All Free detergent. No UV brighteners or scents etc. I also always check any new hunting clothing items under a black light at home to see if they reflect UV light. Then return or sell the if they do.

Then I make sure to not move when I'm in their line of sight. It works!

I have had them walk behind me sitting in my chair within 20 yards with the golf cart parked beside me and never even look my way,

My dad takes the 4 wheeler out and then sits in one of the foot wells. Deer walk right past him. We have sat on/in old machinery too. Old boats in the woods work. Hay bales are great.

I have proven time and again that camo is not necessary. Animals do not see in the same light spectrum as us….birds do and they can be a nuisance when stalking a deer, but mostly I sit and wait without camo and use scent blockers.
We use a Eucalyptus/Tea Tree oil mix in an alcohol spray…smell like the bush and the deer do not know what you are.

Back in the mid-80s, I hunted in New Mexico along the Arizona state line. I used a Lyman Great Plains .54 cal. smoke pole. I could write a book about those trips, but getting to the point I want to make, I met a guide named Billy Penrod. Billy gave me a spray bottle of "Pine-O-Pine mixed about 50-50 with water. We were hunting a ponderosa pine area and one evening while sitting on the ground in front of a pine tree, a mule deer doe walked so close to me that she almost stepped on my right leg. You guys that hunt around pine trees ought to give that a try. Yes, I was in full camo including a face mask.

That's all good info but it baffles me how my Grandpa killed so many deer in his old red and black flannel coat and his Elmer Fudd hat sitting a a steel 5 gallon bucket, technology is great but IMO we invest too much in this stuff
