Is Action Blue Printing Worth It

I just got off the phone with Weatherby. What the guy said was that they don't put a number on the expected increase in accuracy if you blueprint the action. They will only guarantee the .99" 3 shot group at 100 yards that all of the Mark V rifles come with. He also said that the action becomes a true 1 to 1 with the barrel, eliminating as many of the manufacturing variables as possible, helping the gun to be more accurate. I asked about the .1" group from the Carbonmark and to his knowledge it was straight off the assembly line. No blueprinting, trigger fine tuning, or anything else that would push it closer to the custom rifle category. Hope this helps.
Trigger Tech triggers nowadays!!!

Hey Everyone,

I'm about to order a Weatherby Carbonmark in 300 Wby. and I noticed action blueprinting as an option in their custom shop. This will be my "Out West" rifle, strictly used for hunting. Right now, I am comfortable taking shots up to 500 yards at game. I know what action blueprinting is, but everything I read associates it with target rifles, or something that needs to be done after changing barrels. Is it worth the $250 to have Weatherby blueprint the action? Thanks in advance.
I agree with what a lot of folks have said about really being able to harness the potential of a trued action with a quality aftermarket barrel. But it really comes down to how much you will pay to have the next step up in (immeasurable) quality.

As I have gotten older I've moved much more to the camp of 'buy once, cry once,' and I spend a decent amount on hunting and shooting rather than other things, so for me I would spend the $250. But that is fairly irrelevant as you have to figure out if it is worth it to you.

Any increase in accuracy won't be able to be measured bc you don't have a baseline to compare the trued gun against. But people spend a lot more than $250 chasing accuracy, whether it be higher quality reloading equipment, buying several powders to find the best load, or work done by a gunsmith.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Your input is appreciated. As I mentioned is a previous response, I'm not a gun collector. I treat guns as a tool for a specific task, so spending a little more for peace of mind, and/or confidence is probably worth it. Again, thank you for responding. Best of luck to you this hunting season.

Can you send the rifle back to weatherby back after purchase before blueprint? Who's to say you don't get a solid 1/2" rifle before blueprinting. But if it gives you extra confidence what the heck it's your choice ultimately.

That thought crossed my mind, as well. With the shipping costs involved it might be more cost effective to take it to a local gunsmith. I would assume they can do the same job as Weatherby?
