You can only blame new shooters , Covid , supply chain issues for so long.
Ammo companies have had 18 plus months to add some capacity to their business to make more ammo for the reasons above. Even 20 % would have gone along way to fix the problem. They have a vested interest to keep the price of ammo as high as they can for as long as they can. Oh I forgot to tell you I am a former Supervisor for Federal in MN. MD

I was thinking it had been a while since we heard anything from the industry. Thank you for the update.
In the last 2.5 months Ive found two boxes of 270 Federal Fusion and 3 boxes of 7mmRM 155 gr Federal Terminal Ascent. Sadly, 5 boxes feels feel like I've really stocked up!! Haha. To be fair, I've seen a few other boxes of 270W, but they weren't in offerings I wanted.
At least 556 and 9mm is on the shelves again and regular range trips can resume.

But with the backlog they have, they would be able to make more revenue and more profit if they sold higher volume and at a lower price. I just don't believe keeping prices high and supply low is in their best interest in this scenario.
If any company has a valid excuse for not ramping up, it's probably Federal. They spent a pretty penny buying Remington's ammo business so I can't imagine they have cash for expanding other facilities.
I stopped in to Scheels yesterday as I do every Monday and what to my surprise...Bricks of Federal 215 Champion and 210 gold Medal Match primers. I bought a brick of each and let my buddies know. What I didn't know is as of the beginning of October I could have bought all I wanted. So my friend shows up there 3 hours later just to watch one guy buy the last 6 bricks of 210s and 11 bricks of 215s. So he asks the guy if he can give him 20$ just to buy one brick of the 210s. the guy laughed at him and said he'll get $350 a brick on GB so sorry, but no. So until that guy has to eat 17 bricks of primers, we will not get back to 'normal'.

Retailers that don't limit purchases are also contributors to the problem. I know it's not fool proof as you can buy two and come back an hour later and buy two more and probably get away with it, etc so it's not perfect. But it certainly helps. I don't understand stores that don't limit. There is zero chance the items will go unsold and a 100% chance they will make lots of customers happy instead of only 1 customer.
I feel sure they are like every other company across this nation with a Help Wanted sign in the window, Nobody wants to work. Example, My home town 10 fast food restaurants all hiring at $15 an hour within 3 blocks of the 5 people cleanly dressed on the corners hold the "Homeless, Anything will Help Sign", We are short staffed at our family business as well, we can't even get folks to show up for an interview

I'm USUALLY not in favor of limiting sales of certain items but in this case in think Scheels should put a limit on primers to prevent resale of primers at confiscatory prices and depriving other customers of buying supplies. I know about supply and demand so keep your comments about this to your self.
I'm not suggesting anything but wouldn't it be funny if the guy who bought every brick of primers and screwed the other potential buyers got robbed just outside the store?
i've found shelves stocked with ammo at most big box places lately. the local gun stores too. prices are just higher than pre-china flu. i guess i'll have to start buying it at some point, but i'm stocked up pretty good right now.

We can't get people to show up to interviews for $100k a year union mining jobs. Pre covid there was multi year waiting lists....

i know ya all gotta get supplies , but try to not buy anything from scalpers , ever
