Cerakote or Bead Blast for Final Finish - New Build

Icehawk, slow your roll there. What he's saying is that the age of deeply blued firearms being hunted with is going away. NOT that firearms are going away.

I think he meant the age of the wood stocked, blued firearm is fading. They are being replaced by synthetic stocked, stainless firearms. 🤷‍♂️
Blackdirt Cowboy thanks for your understanding - beautiful wood and deep blued firearms are not what they used to be.
Man how someone can jump right on something that you say. Not only that but to personally attack me and call me "Delusional and a COWARD". I should have spelled everything out on my posts.

Icehawk I see that you just joined this forum. Maybe you should think about going to another forum. This forum is not for people with mean spirts and name calling!

They will never go away completely, because any custom I build will definitely have beautiful wood. I'm just not a fan of the synthetic stocks. I don't mind stainless in a hunting rifle, but the beautiful wood is a requirement for me. As far as the OPs question, my vote is for a bead or soda blast of some type. I'm just not a fan of cerakote, and it's for purely aesthetic reasons.

Here is my 270 WSM that is just getting finished up. Bead blasted the action and brake. I like the offset of the color. Same thing, can always change but they tried it to see how it looked. I'm happy with it

Darn
That is one nice looking rig plus it is in 270WSM. Jill has a Kimber 84 Mountain in 270WSM and it is one of the best cartridges out there.
Really like what you did with you rifle-stock/barrel/action/brake/bipod! Sure wouldn't mind owning/hunting with your rig!

I have a Kimber 270WSM. Great rig.

Very beautiful rig. Kimber 8400, GREAT wood, Mate metal finish, Leopold Scope - GREAT Combination. Some people only like the dark wood, but very few nice light colored wood stocks like this. I can't show my Father-in-Law this picture. He will be hinting for us to buy it for him for Christmas. He just goes nuts for the lighter colored wood.
Thanks much for sharing, it is EXCEPTIONAL!!!!

I've never really liked light walnut but this one is the exception. You know the adage "it looks better in person". That applies here. I have 7mm WSM that has really dark wood. It's beautiful as well.

she is cool looking. could never do that to my 270. my father would never forgive me however it would be more practical for the bush. have fun with her and treat her wonderfully well.. icehawk
Thanks! I still have my old wood and blued 270 Win that won't get changed! Still have a soft spot for the originals

Thank you! I have a Browning X Bolt in 270 WSM and love the caliber. Seems to be my go to anymore. Can't have too many!

I have used Satin Mag color Cerakote on floorplates, and it matches blasted stainless VERY well. It's an easy way to make a black floorplate into a "stainless" one. If you wanted to make a stainless rifle appear stainless using Cerakote, it is the one I would choose.
Having said that, it's easy to touch up a bead blasted stainless rifle at any time.

When bead blasting in stainless, it is recommended to use very fine media (Brownells sells it), low pressure, and not have used the media with regular steel or you may get rusting. I find it less expensive to have a local gunsmith do it than to buy the media and go through the hassle of cleaning out my blast cabinet when I want to do stainless.

I'm leaning towards the cerakote mainly because I'm not concerned with aesthetics at all for this rifle and just want function and durability. I appreciate the aesthetics and can see how bead or soda blast looks great with a SS finish.
