Why 6.5 prc?

I like my 6.5 PRC but my 7WSM beats it in most categories. The only downside to the WSM is getting quality brass. I really don't want to bother reforming 300WSM brass so I just carefully prep the Win brass.

As far as using the 156EOL in the PRC case; I find that 2,950 ft/sec is a reasonable max without pushing the envelope.

Why?….Hornady capitalized on what the 6.5x284(the ballistic twin to the 6.5PRC) devotees have realized for well over a decade. Riding on the shirt-tails of the successful 6.5 Creedmoor, Hornady, has applied a similar commercial strategy and has successfully brought a higher capacity, longer range 6.5 to the masses looking for a more potent 6.5 with "standardized", quality factory ammo and broad based rifle-manufacturer adoption. At 2950-3050FPS using the wide variety of high quality/BC 130-160gr bullets, it is capable of exceptional accuracy, manageable recoil, easy to handload, with superb ballistic performance capable of effectively taking medium game to 1000+ yards. While a bit bigger and faster cartridge "might" make a difference in practical results, I agree with others that the performance of the 6.5PRC(6.5x284N) is in the "sweet spot"…IMO..

I probably won't jump on the 6.5 PRC train merely because I was an early adopter of the 6.5 Gap. I also have and really like the 7 wsm. 140 class bullets in my 6.5 and 180's in my 7 wsm.

Rounds in that size class tend to be very accurate, deliver plenty of speed and energy and all in a package with not much recoil.

I have a 6.5-300wby and it's bad to the bone, dropped a trophy aoudad at 517 yds with it. But my 6.5 prc is my go to for long range plinking and to hunt medium sized game. I like how it doesn't punish the shooter with recoil, it also seems to get still good velocities with short barrels. My barrel is 20" and my friend is 26" with the same load his is only 105 FPS faster.

Also these short fat cases are very easy to get to shoot accurately. I've heard of very few 26 noslers that were accurate and consistent. My 26 Nosler was terrible. About 30% more powder for an additional 100 FPS with huge extreme spreads and ugly groups

What powders are yall using?

I don't think that people wanting to get or already have a 6.5 prc are looking for the highest possible velocity. If that were the case then no one would buy the 6.5prc, they'd get a 6.5-300 or a 26,28 Nosler. The 6.5prc is flat enough shooting to reach out and doesn't have much recoil, especially compared to the cartridges you mentioned.
I concur I have a 65 Creedmoor love that bullet is great it is awesome but I just wish it had a little more hitting power. I have a 65 300 Weatherby that kicks the **** out of you but it is a tack driver I take that out west for my elk hunt and that's it. It would be nice to have some thing in the middle. Then again I have a seven Weatherby which pretty much kicks butt

I can definitely see where the 6.5 prc fits, I just saw a few posts that put it as equally fast as anything else out there and I had no experience to call bs. I don't see anyone jumping in that has claimed excessive speed so maybe my curiosity can be answered

We have 2 Christensen 6.5. PRCs. Mine 24", son's is 26". We do ladder tests. With 143 eldx, his sweet spot is 3200fps, mine 3160fps. They both shoot sub .5 moa. We had 6.5-284s, best we got was 3020fps. We can have a lot of wind & distance shooting. Easy to reload. We both are extremely glad we made the switch!
