Peterson Brass

You are 2 gr under max charge weight, but 50fps over max velocity, and more accurate than with other brass.....and you are not satisfied with those results?
Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth...

It is because Peterson's brass is thicker, meaning reduced case capacity, meaning higher pressures with like charge weights. Back it down until you see no ejector mark and enjoy.
^^^^^ this x2. Peterson, ADG, and Lapua will all do this. ADG even states when using their brass "start 10% lower on powder charges when using our brass". This is due to thicker brass and increased pressure. This does not mean you stuff the same amount of powder in their and expect to gain velocity! Be happy your 50FPS faster and saving powder.
 
When I shot these, I was at 5300 feet of elevation, temp was 84 degrees F, humidity was 17%, starting loads gave me 2824fps, the top charges I had loaded gave me 2917 fps. Top load in Norma brass nets me 2825, same box of bullets, same box of primers, and same bottle of powder. Seating depth was 3.420.

I bet if you play around your staring load it would take very little tweaking to make it shoot as good or better than your old load since they were the same speed.
 
I've used Peterson in 6mm Creedmoor and was very impressed with Peterson so I bought 150 of the 300 win long Peterson brass for my new custom 300 win. I've only fired about 35 of them so far. No pressure signs for me with the initial ladder test. I was loading 72 gr to 78.9 gr of H1000 and pushing 199 gr Hammer Hunters for my ladder test. I thought I would see pressure signs when I got over 78gr but did not. I also had higher velocities than I was expecting. I could take some pictures of my brass for you to look at if you believe your ejector marks are the signs of excess pressure. I did not see a difference in the case markings from 72 gr all the way up to 78.9 gr.
 
Well I am looking forward to working with this brass and hopefully I will find as good or better a load as I have been using. For the record, I didn't just take the same load I was shooting in the Norma brass, I went back to the start and worked up, I have the slight ejector imprint at 1 grain above the starting load. While I got phenomenal accuracy with the heavier bullets and 4955 in Norma brass, I am prepared to need a slower powder for the same results. Time will tell.
 
I'm loving mine so far. It's starts at the length my Norma was after 2 firings. I've loaded 190 SMKs & 208 LRHTs. Shooting w/ RL26 through a 26" Bartlein barrel. Accuracy phenomenal & velocities I would have thought an error on my Lab. Glad I kept my Magneto V3 to verify.
 
So today when I got home from work, I broke out my micrometer to take some accurate readings. Virgin brass measures .5090, the once fired average .5122 for a difference of .0032, this was across the starting to the top loads shot that day. My Norma virgin brass measures .5102, and the fired brass is .5138, the fired brass was on its 7th reload.these measurements were all taken just ahead of the belt, the measurements I quoted before were from my dial caliper.

Get a bump gauge and measure the change in shoulder length of unfired to your cases showing ejector marks, may give you some data.
 
I recently purchased 250 pieces of Peterson 300 WM Long Brass, I have been searching for more Norma Brass, but looking at the reviews I thought I'd take the plunge. It seems to be softer than my Norma Brass, and it certainly has less capacity. I loaded up 20 of them with 208gr AMax bullets over IMR4955, lit by CCI250s. Accuracy was as good or better than loads with the Norma brass, but I started seeing the ejector imprint 3 grains under the max load. I am shooting these in a factory Sendero, and so expect a little more velocity than some of the book loads using 24" barrels. At 2 grains under max, my velocities were 50fps over the expected velocity for the max book charge. I didn't notice the ejector imprints until I got home, very faint, and almost identical across a 1.5 grain increase in powder charge, the primers showed some cratering in the last rounds fired. I know that 4955, which is in the same ballpark as 4350 in burn rate, but it is the powder that was available to buy. I am going to try some RL 26, as I have a pound of it, and I have a bunch of Magpro left in a Jug I got a smoking deal on, I just don't like shooting it in hot weather. I also have a little RL22 on hand. Anyone else using this 300 WM Long brass seeing the same thing, am I over thinking this? Bolt lift and extraction were perfectly normal.
I'm shooting same Pettersom brass, 77.7 - H1000 under a 208 eld m, and 208 A-max negligible impact differece at 100-200yards. Because of the A max tip issues they have, i have 1" or so difference out at 400+. But no issue with brass, some neck cracks on some brass after 5 reload. Started annealing well see if that resolves the cracking.
