Official Hammer bullets Terminal Performance (picture heavy)

The relatively low BC on the Hammers is due to the big, open 1.5mm hollow point. They could not get repeatable expansion with anything less and were not willing to sacrifice performance for BC. Tips were not repeatable either in their testing, only the open hollow point was ~100% and required liquid to expand and open up.

Possibly. I'm really more concerned about velocity and energy loss than drop. We can always dial for drop and wind.
I understand your concerns with this comment. BC doesn't just affect bullet drop. It affects impact velocity drastically. I'd punch in your numbers on a ballistic calculator and see at what range your bullets do not meet YOUR desired impact velocity requirements. Hammers are good to 1800FPS, but maybe you like 2500FPS on impact, for example. Just crunch the numbers and use what makes you comfortable. I use the hammers, but I 100% understand what you're saying.

I understand that but other mono bullets in the same weight class have much higher BC; for example 6.5mm 125 Badlands Bulldozer has an advertised G7 BC of .302, Cayuga 122 grain has G7 BC of .280 and Cutting Edge 125 tipped have a BC of .243-.269. The 123 Absolute for example Has an advertised BC of .229 and the 124 Hunter has advertised BC of .245 which is closed in line.

It could very well be others claims are inflated, the badlands seems inflated to me for example.
Yes and they have more Bering surface not allowing the velocity you get with the hammers loaded too full potential if you would have told me 3 months ago I could get nearly 3900 fps out of a 25-284 with a 90 gr hammer I would have said bull you know what but I am

It's a hunting bullet designed to kill with efficiency and that's exactly what it does, BC can be manipulated and adjusted, Lethality can't
I like that statement a lot. That's all there is to it. Period.

Bull Dozer. Doesn't shed pedals.
Cutting Edge. Very little tunability due to the drive band.
Hammers. Give up .03 G7 BC. Drive tacks, Shoot fast for their weight, and shed pedals in devastating fashion.

I, admittingly, use to dwell too much on BC as well. Like A LOT. Fact of the matter, it really doesn't come to light out to 800-1000 yards.

Just to be clear, we are on the same page here. I have converted to hammer bullets for 2 yrs now. I have also converted all of my friends over.

I wouldnt go so far as to say theres no room for improvement. I dont think Steve would either. After all, im sure it was a striving for something better that led to hammers being created in the first place.

I wouldnt say that a tip could make them better either, was just asking a question, had it been considered? The only two complaints in this thread have been low bc and "possibly" slower than desired expansion on game. I am not an engineer, but thought that "possibly" a tip could aid on both of those. Some tips aid in expansion and improve aerodynamics.

Lastly, if Steve ever comes up with an improved design, it will in no way derail or undermine hammer bullets. It will simply be more lethal.

Yes, it was tried and they could not get reliable expansion with tips.

I never said the was no room for improvement, You asked a question and I answered it, This came directly from Steve and Brian, They tried a tipped bullet and it did not work, That was the end of that conversation

Appreciate it, sorry to beat a dead horse.

Part of my response was directed at the comment "that would defeat the design of the hammer bullet" not your post Butterbean
