Ever think, when you see something new or unusual, 'I wonder who was the first to try that?', along with 'why?'.. as it often seems like a bit of insanity or desperation must have been behind the first to try some things. Like burying eggs in straw until they're black, for example..
One of my favorite quotes goes something like this: "A man with experience is not at the mercy of a man with an argument".
A long winded way of tipping my hat to the ones who put in the time and effort to make things better, and endure the failures as contributing to the better outcome.
ButterBean seems like one of those people. I like learning from people like that.
As another datapoint for anyone who might still be skeptical after all that's been said in this thread, I'll contribute this from another who seems to think the same way: "Accuracy -crimping (Hornady vs Lee) vs neck tension method"
And here is a sample of his test results: "Who Crimps the 277 WLV?"
I do appreciate when someone shares the benefits of their work.

BTW, I picked up a Lee FCD to do some work of my own. Looking forward to the fun.

Good ole' eBay, just arrived today.

I've only been collecting these a few weeks but this suits the .280ai cartridge and that's the one I'm currently working with on loading.

That's a good question. I just shortened some Win brass to shoot the Hornady 250 Monoflex bullet. I noticed that I couldn't crimp the cases with the FCD. But .... the bullets shot quite well with no crimp. Running them at just over 2,300 ft/sec and they group well and fly flatter than anything else I've used to date.
I can modify them, $40 if you supply the die

Its happened to me more than a couple of times and I started crimping everything for the last 2 years.
