7mm sherman max

You have your die screwed down to much. Put a piece of brass in shell holder. Drop the ram down to raise the case all the way up. Screw die down until it touches the brass. Then back out one turn.

I think You're right!
.290" shouldn't do that!

Agree. Did that one too many times..

Make sure you use a good amount of lube when sizing the body too.

Ok.... I'll admit defeat and my stupidity and ask for help. I'm having an issue setting up my whidden micrometer seating die. I've looked online for help and all Ive found is "take a loaded round and screw the die down till it stops". Ok fine....but I'm trying to get a loaded round.

I get lower ram and screw die in till it touches the shell holder. Lower ram. Then another 1 or 2 rotations more. I get that. This is where I get confused. Loosen set screw on top (ok, got it) and unscrew stem about an inch. What part? The micrometer dial or the screw portion of the die below the micrometer dial? Or is the threaded rod that the set screw is on?

If it's not the screw portion under the micrometer dial, then where do you set that? Screw it all the way down? Midway? And where do you put the micrometer dial to start? Unscrew it so it starts at longest possible?

I'm sure this is a totally stupid question and I'm missing something super easy but I'm tired of pulling bullets when they go to far in.

Please help....

I've got about 1/4" between my die and base I can take micro seater out raise my shell screw seater down and gradually seat a bullet then next time do it regular and the bulge happens again

If its a seating die I think you need to back it out one or 2 rotations before setting the main die locking ring......... " I get lower ram and screw die in till it touches the shell holder. Lower ram. Then another 1 or 2 rotations more. I get that."..........I made the same mistake about 1 month ago and had my bullet seating die screwed down to far because I was adjusting to a different shell holder. It crushed the case the same way. I take a empty case with the ram all the way to the top and then screw my bullet seating die down till I feel it just touch. Then I back it out about 2 turns and set the lock ring so the die body never goes down lower than that. I then adjust the seating stem screw on top all the way up and start from there. I dont have any dies I'm currently using that has a micrometer but the old Hornady die that I had when loading 6.5X284 I would run the micrometer to the top and then see what it would give me for as a seating depth. Usually the bullet is just bairley in the case. Then you can adjust down from there after taking some type of measurement.

Ok that is interesting. Did you clean the brass in a wet tumbler for a length of time? If so the mouth of the case may need to be reamed again with a VLD reamer or just a regular case ream/deburr. They can roll over on very small level and you will never realize this. I had started doing wet tumbling and quit because I lost some cases and I did not know why and it was the only process that I did different so I quit until I learned what was going on. I still now only clean with the walnut or corn cobb media now. The brass felt really sticky when trying to seat a bullet.

Too much neck tension it looks. Did you debur and chamfer case mouth? Maybe you need a bigger bushing? Or maybe yoir die is screwed in too far to where the Brass may be impacting die.
