Hammer Hunter 131 280AI Pressure

I was unaware that the 168gn 30 cal data he referenced was for Hammer Bullets.
Forgive my ignorance as I thought brass flow was a pressure sign. I'll be safe, and thanks.

Re the below that I posted on 308 cratering the detail is not with Hammer's bullet used below is 168 Sierra Match King. I just added the pic of the 308 as a reference to the 280 primers. Am I good with the load I worked up or should I back off?

To be honest I never noticed the 308 cratering until now, I checked Hodgdon website and for 168 they have a max load of 46 grains and velocity of 2667, I'm at 44.1 grns and am at 2669 (rem 700 26" barrel 1-12, Hodgdon data using 24" barrel and 1-9)) I thought I was good until I checked the max velocity, I just assumed I would be fine 2 grains below max

Now that we have that clear and you have no experience with Hammers let me say this and I mean no offense, Keep working your way through conventional bullets and stay safe. While We appreciate your response on primer cratering it does not apply here as Hammers use a completely different reloading practice and procedure and you will need to clear your mind to grasp it, If you want some Hammers it's easy peasy, order some and you will have them in 3 days, Once again no offense intended

I haven't seen or read how Hammers Hunters are any different to load for than conventional bullets, even Steve recommends using Nosler load data.

The Absolute Hammers, yes they are a different animal.

But even so, the round/primer in question by the OP was shooting a Sierra.

That Nosler data is a starting point for me the hammers have drive bands that reduce friction and drag allowing more velocity with less pressure all things being equal in a manner of speaking

You haven't been keeping up on HH's very well then is all I'm gonna say about that and you continue to amaze me as once again you are incorrect

I just got a box of HH 131's to load in my 280 AI. I took the Nosler loading data for 140grn, the only powder I have that was on the chart was H4831SC the starting load listed was 58.5 grn and the max load was 62.5. I loaded in .5 grn increments from 58.5 to 64.0. Attached is a pic of the primer of the 58.5 and the 64.0, actually all the fired round primers looks just like these. Am I wrong are these primers showing pressure signs right from the first round? Sorry the pictures don't really show the detail on the screen, there are concentric lines going out from the center to the edge of the primer.

Nevermind. Doesn't even matter.

What are you talking about? The primer in question was a .308 with a Sierra.

So Steve is wrong about his own bullets? I was shooting Hammers long before you even knew they existed.

Post#5 he used a 308 for comparison to the Hammer Loads

And no Steve is not wrong about anything and I never said or implicated that, The loading procedure on his website is there for the standard reason and yes conventional loading practices will work but there's ton's of good stuff left on the table. There is a Weird Mob of folks who think outside the box and have found that the HH's also respond to considerably faster powers higher neck tension and the LEE FCD and a few other things as well, There will be some very interesting information available after this weekend to digest if your the least bit interested. I will say If you have been loading them that long I would have thought you would have already known all of this, No offense intended

With that I apologize to the OP for here we are again,

Adam32+p the reg hammer bullet will usually have a vel gain over a conventional bullet maybe a 100 fps plus and the absolute 150 plus over the reg hammer sometimes the volume left over in the case when switching from the hammer too the absolute will allow more vel with more powder without pressuring out if you run out of case capacity then go too a faster powder nothing is written in stone when working with the hammers it's trial and error as over pressure goes ejector marks expanded primer pockets and stiff bolt lift or good indicators of over pressure also Nosler brass could be a problem showing ejector marks prematurely Bean is probably one of the most experienced loaders of these bullets as far as I know I've paid a lot of attention too his post he's usually spot on good luck on your load Steve from hammer bullets has his 280 ai smoking with 140 s out of a 22 in barrel I looked at your cases kind of hard too diagnose without hands on good luck

Post #38 about the .308 and the Sierra.

Too much going on in this thread, I thought you had replied to the primer of the .308.
