25-06 for hogs!

I just recently picked up a 257Bee, this will be my first. My customer could not get it to shoot and offered me the rifle for $500. Had to say yes! It's a re-barreled New Haven Classic Stainless with one piece bottom metal and B&C Medallion stock. Barrel is 10" twist and 26" long. It's only a skinny barrel, but not too skinny. Only shot a handful of rounds, it shoots very well with factory ammo so far. I really haven't seen any of the problems my customer was stating. I think he flinches and won't admit it to be honest.

Cheers.

25-06 is a great cartridge. My son has a heavy barrel 26" that shoots sub 1/2 MOA at 200 & 300 yds. I have two .257 Wbys and they are very accurate. I'm taking a .257 on my mule deer hunt next month. Son didn't get drawn.

I shot a 300 lb hog with a 25-06 and 100 gr swift a-frames. Distance of about 175 yds. Made the mistake of shooting him like a deer, behind the front leg. I know I hit him cause he took off on a dead run, and kept running. Never found him or any blood anywhere. I'm thinking he died a slow death. Not real happy about it.

G'day all,
Just wondering how many mad hog hunters in here use a 25-06 for hogs?

I love mine (3) for hog hunting, shoots way FLAT and drops 'em like the Hammer of Thor!
TIA.

Cheers.
Well, I use the equivalent,25-284 shoot'm right behind the ear. Smacks'm DRT
And all I use is a Nosler 85gr ballistic Tip @ 3550fps
I've never lost one hog to that combo.

You got real lucky with that rifle! Wish I stumbled on to such a find.

My 25SST is pretty close to a 257 Wby, it hits hogs pretty hard at 3780fps with a 100gr Nosler BT. Leaves huge exits.

The 131gr ACE at ~3200 does well on hogs to with the tips cleaned out.

The first animal I ran into when I shot a 25-06 was a pig about 100 pounds and the 120 gr Hornady Interlock put it on the ground.
Back when I shot a 25-06 there were not much of a bullet selection but now with hammers and others I have changed my mind on the 25-06.
If I run into a good deal on one I'll jump on it.
