Finally going on my first rifle hunt of the year this weekend, and I got a big ol Cali buck that I found during archery season that I'm hoping to turn up again.

I drove 15 minutes out to where I shoot, to take one, single, cold bore shot. Set my target and then took off driving. Stopped at a random spot.

748 Yards. 12.8 MOA elevation. No wind.

Such a sweet feeling after the countless range trips leading up to rifle season, trying to get everything perfect.

SWEET, Bro !
Nice to see, somebody,.. "got IT, right" !
My .270 WSM rifle, shot, a 5", 5 shot, group at 700 Yards, a couple of weeks ago but group was, slightly Right ( poss, light Wind ? )
So, I gotta do, the same thing with my, Tikka,.. Re-check Zero at, 500 ish to be SURE, as I drew a descent, central Idaho, Elk Tag.

Should have saved that one for the tag in your pocket. Sure hope you pull off that same shot at the moment of truth. Great shooting.
Hahaha ain't that the truth!!! Hopefully the second one flies just as true 🤞 .

Could be spin drift also. I sight in 1/2 MOA left at 200 yards. Centers up at about 7-800 yards and then is about 1/2 MOA right at 1000.

The Wind was blowing Lightly from, the Left to the Right and YUP,.. I always, sight my Rifles at 200 yards, slightly 1/4" to 1/2" Left of, center.
I "Dial" for distance, past 400 Yards with the .270 WSM ( 140's @ 3,185 FPS are, "Lazers",.. close up ! )
I just need to figure out, which WAY my old .338 Mag "Flinch" is going to, take me,.. LOL !
I probably "Hunch" my Left shoulder,.. slightly, Right ??
Shoot straight and Good luck, everyone !

Did you make any additional adjustments? I only ask because there's always that perfectionist part of us that says, now, if I can just get that an inch to the right.....
Absolutely not lol. I never make any adjustments based off of a single shot. It's normally been putting down around a 4" group at 700 yards. The following shots probably would have surrounded the bullseye had I shot more.

We think much alike! Even though you're "wrong handed" hahaha.

Huntnful, Did you get to hunt this weekend? I hunted northern B and found very little deer activity, Don't think that big old full moon is doing us any favors right now. MT. Great shooting BTW!

That 28 Nosler and your 169 gr. Hammer Bullet, looks like a serious, Elk,.. "Stomper" !
750 yds, is my Maximum "Range" on Big Game,.. IF, the Wind is,.. reasonable and,.. readable.

No I didn't, I'm going in for 6 days starting on Friday. No I don't think the moon helps, but I don't worry about it. I killed my big buck last year the morning after the full moon. I just go hunting whenever and as much as I can. They'll slip up eventually.

That's my preferred max range as well in good conditions, And 500 yards if it's windy.

That's a realistic range in both accounts.
