Eh, just not in my particular instance. I got the 180 VLD targets to still shoot pretty dang good with a longer jump (but that was 200 rounds ago). But I'm also being a little extra about the "hardly group" part. If they shoot 3/4 MOA, I'm considering that trash lol. They will pretty much all shoot 3/4 MOA right now. I'm sure the actual erosion inconsistencies is also playing a role in that, not just the longer jump.
 
Have had a 7-300 NMImp for about 4 years now. Far surpasses any other platform in the 7mm class - I am currently running the 195 Berger EOL in Peterson brass, using CCI 250 primers and Retumbo Powder. Consistently shoots .30 five shot groups at 3179 fps which is about 3/4 of the way up the node. There are some guys running that bullet in 28 and 30 inch barrels getting 3300 fps.
The terminal ballistic is unreal - 1720 yards, it will still carry the magic 1000 lbs of energy to kill elk - if you subscribe to that theory.

Also, I've not seen much in the way of tiny groups from the 28 noslers. They "can" do it, but they won't stay doing it for long.

Meanwhile, I'll probably get 20 firings on my brass. :) Enough to burn this barrel out with 50 pieces probably.

Having said that, I'm pretty close to sure we've got plenty of other threads to talk about 28 nosler. If you'd like to talk about 28 nosler, lets use those threads please, and leave mine for those that want to talk about 7 norma mag improved. I feel that is a pretty reasonable ask, and I hope you do as well.

Ok lets make sure we are talking rifle and bullet specs exactly the same with the cartridge we are talking about. Same action, bbl maker, same bbl twist, same bbl length, same brass, powder and primer etc...

More powder wins, more ability to fill the case with like bullets wins, capacity is a constant that cannot be refuted:
  • 28N case capacity - 94 grains +/-
  • 7mm-300NMi - 107 grains +/-
  • 13 grains +/- is a lot
They will both burn barrels compared to non-magnums. They are both capable of 1/4 min groups with the right load and shooter. Nobody builds either one with the expectation it will last 2500 rounds

If you are looking for the king of speed - 7mm-300 NMi wins every single time
If you are looking for super fast and badass with access to lots of components and even OTC ammo in a pinch - 28N wins every single time

Most shooters (or wanna be/new) to long range shooting would and probably should go to 28 for ease and availability. With more experience some will see the advantage of the 7-300nmi.
I think the biggest problem when talking which cartridge is the king of speed is barrel length.
"Most hunters" would balk at a 30" barrel in a hunting rifle. Most consider 26" about max for a hunting rig though I think more and more 28 is becoming the norm with the new bigger mags.

Agree completely - I dont run anything longer than a 26 on any hunting rig and actually prefer a 24 - especially if I am suppressed. I own a lot of wlidcats and a lot of one off stuff and none of it has a 30 inch bbl.
