Hi folks! I would like to give the hammers a try. I mainly hunt small central TX deer, shoot pigs when they show up too. One of the rifles I hunt with a lot is a 25-06 sendero with a 10 twist 26" barrel. I usually shoot the superformance factory 117 sst.

With all of the bullet choices I'm not sure what to pick: hunter, absolute, or shock. I usually only shoot deer to 400 yards. I would choose a body shot over 200. I was thinking of the 90grn absolute. I have some other 25s including 06s if they don't work but they are shorter barrels. The site shows it will work with a 10 twist but is it marginal?

With regular bullets I try to go with the heaviest that will shoot well, but still like to be 3000fps or more. I've seen discussions about going really light and screaming velocities.

What are some thoughts?

I'd wait for Butterbean or Steve to reply but a 90 grain Absolute can be shot at normal velocities too if you use standard powders. To 400 yds that little 90 will be zipping at 3500 fps so drops would be real easy to calculate with a 200 yd zero. I don't think you can go wrong. Enjoy.

I've been hunting deer with Barnes 80 gr for a number of years using my 257AI and ive gotten full penetration and a kill every time. They were like a laser beam. I switched to the 75 gr Hunter and finished load testing recently. I'm getting excellent accuracy and looking forward to trying it on deer for the first time this fall. BTW, this same bullet shot under .1" in my 250AI and ran over 3500 fps with IMR-3031.

Run the 92g Hammer hunter and don't look back
ButterBean, I'm loading the 92 grain Hammer Hunter in a straight 25-06 looking for pressure with H4350 & H4831SC (3360+ fps) and need to load some more to find it. What is/are your favorite powders for the 25-06? Accuracy is great so far!
Thanks, Pdd
