Caliber choise for Wolves

Never questioned the guy. 200 yards is point blank range for folks on this page and my guess is most are considerably closer than 200. I've made my points very clear, wolves are not hard to kill if you hit them right. If distance wasn't a potential factor I'd use a 204 or a 223. Getting a shot that close is not easy in this country. There is a huge difference in how they behave here. Much much much more human interaction etc. There is a reason why government hunters and trappers are a thing. Gov hunters use a helo and telemetry device. They don't go out making stands and calling in wolves, it's a different ball game. Nonetheless, you do what you want and base your info off of whatever you desire. If it works for you let us know the results and techniques so we can be educated and successful as well. I'd like nothing more than to be hammering wolves in close vs far and using a smaller caliber. Those long range shots require a significant amount of talent to make happen. Over the winter I chase wolves and shoot yotes if the opportunity is there. I killed quite a few 500-800 last winter simply because they were in the area. Headed out saturday to chase wolves actually. Found 2 packs in different locations so my archery elk is delayed now.
Good luck! More pics please! I was just looking to see what a nonresident hunt would take. I quit holding my breath for MN to have a season again. My buddy took this pic with phone yesterday while driving home.

Some state game laws are giving total protection to coyotes...........Tell that to a Sheep Rancher. Just because its a state law dosent mean that its good.

If your in a state with minimum requirements and get caught say good bye to hunting privileges, your puddle jumper and that pee shooter. And hang on to your wallet cause they will take that too!!'

To Date, the BEST Caliber and Bullet for Wolves ( so far ) IS,..
The .270 WSM out of, a Tikka T-3, 24" bbl.,... shooting 140 grain, AccuBonds !
A Young man, in North Central Idaho, Killed TWO with,.. ONE Shot !
Accubonds are kind of, a "Hard" Bullet ( smallish Mushroom ) and fully penetrated 1st Wolf ( he ran, a couple hundred yards, leaking Blood ) and the Bullet "Flattened" the 2nd Wolf,.. on the Spot !
My .270 WSM will be loaded with, 140 Classic hunt. Bergers for Elk and IF, I get Lucky and see another Wolf,.. I'll let you guys know, how IT works !
Personally, I Like an Expanding Bullet in .243 / 6mm or, Larger as, they are Tough and can be 200-300 yards or MORE, away !
Most Wolves, shot in Idaho, are by "chance" by, Deer & Elk Hunters,.. back IN, and away from, roads / People.
I've seen two, while Archery Hunting Elk, 2+ miles in from, the Truck / Road.

California if you have coyote problems it must be investigated before any action can be taken..................................Screw them
Where are you getting that info? It is not illegal to kill a coyote in CA. You have to follow local ordinances which means you can't fire weapons etc inside city limits etc. Most states have similar ordinances though. What most people do is file a complaint with enforcement since they don't have the means to deal with live traps, etc. Outside city limits and on public land that allows discharging weapons you can shoot a coyote without any issues. Again, you have to follow any local ordinances.

Same issue in Nevada with MT Lions............. They killed some on my brother in laws sheep. You need to call NDOW and report the incident. Then wait until they do an investigation. We dont have time for this CRAP. In the mean time they loose two more, still no one has called that is suppose to come out and investigate. If it was me I kill the dam thing and be done with it

Yet he has been warned by the local Sheriff to be careful because the Cartels are armed with AK's. And your telling me to follow the local ordinances?? California looks the other way when all of this is going on..... because that piece of **** for a governor is protecting his sacred cow of Illegal imigration. Ive had with all these rules. Waiting four or five years to draw a tag in an area that has cartels killing the deer and Government looks the other way. Dont talk to me about the local ordinances. Ok

Good lord dude, you spin off in all sort of directions that have no foundation. Killing a coyote lead to some bs about cartels in CA? Those things are not related and the fact is, coyotes are not protected. Mt Lions are protected as a big game animal. Again, not related, not even close. Pollitics of CA related to law enforcement process is not part of this discussion.

Where are you getting this information from? Could you please quote the "State" and the State's Game Laws where Coyotes are protected??????
I would like to see the State's hunting regulations with the "Reference Regulations". This would be good for all of us to know so that we don't hunt a coyote and be doing it illegally!

Thanks much for your research on hunting coyotes. There is a lot of us that hunts coyotes and want to know what States restrict coyote hunting.

Dang! Nice picture of a Black! I have several shots of BLACK coyotes from last year that I should post. Almost unbelievable that they could be pure BLACK in color! Maybe you could get this one and have a nice rug or mount. OR maybe this one is in an area where it doesn't need to be harvested.
