So I ordered a .20" 1:8T .277 cal Douglas #6 .for my 1951 Win M70 yesterday. Planning on having it chambered in a straight. .270 Win and looking to run 140-155gn solids. Either Hammers or the Bulldozer. Question is, does anybody have any experience running this setup and if so, was that here any issues running Mag length or jamming the lands? Did you need to add additional freeborn?

I imagine running the WSM resolves those issues, but wanted to check and see what you're experiences have been

Appreciate the info!

I have a 1:8 .277 Lilja on a Kimber Montana w/SAAMI 270Win chamber. W/140gn Super BullDozer I'm a mile off the lands as I'm stuck to no more than 3.34" COAL. COAL to the lands in my rifle is ~3.580. The only way you're getting to the lands with your rifle would be to shorten the ejector/bolt-stop and source a magnum length mag-box. You may also have to lengthen the ejection port should you wish to eject a loaded round.

That said, I haven't had any trouble at all getting excellent accuracy from the 140's WAY off the lands. 3150fps w/R-26 from a 22" bbl in Rem FF'd brass and BR-2 primers.

Good deal. That's the info I was looking for. Thank you!

I've run a few test ladders with the 139gr Absolute Hammer in my 1-7" twist 24" long xcaliber in 270 Win. The details are over in the Absolute Hammer load thread. I'm getting ~3170 FPS with RL26 (which *should* be too slow for the Absolutes) and around 3050-3150 fps with a bunch of faster powders (H4350, RL16, Staball, H100V etc).

Also I know @Muddyboots has worked up a killer load with the 156 Hammer Hunters and RL26 in his 1-8" twist 270 win.

Just got back from range with my .270 Thors Hammer🤣 to try another velocity. This a 700LA that was trued, 27" Preferred Barrel, 1:8 twist, 5R, Holland 0.250 recoil lug, Triggertech trigger, Magpul stock.
Edit added: 0.290 free bore added.

The load is 156HH with 62.0 gr RL26 which I feel is safe in MY RIFLE. Use standard safe reloading practices to work up load in your rifle.

Rifle avg velocity was 3185, 19 ES, 9SD. 5 shot Group was 0.475 so I think I have it where I want!
