6.5 PRC seating depth with 142 LRAB

Recently bought a new Christensen Arms Mesa and would like to shoot the 142 lrab. I seated them to 2.955" which is .010 off the lands. Tried 52-57 gr of Reloader 26 and all of the groups are about 2". Just wondering what COL these long range accubonds like in a 6.5 prc?

Nosler's data puts them at 2.955" also.

Mine prefer .030" off, have 4 rifles in 6.5, all like it about the same, one likes .025" off, none liked touching or jammed.

I just can't seem to get them to shoot well in any of my rifles. This week I'll try again by moving the bullets farther & farther from the lands.

Regular Accubonds have been easier to work with. The 140 Accubond regularly prints under 2" at 400 yds in my rifle. But .... they're also impossible to find lately.

I bought a box of Nosler trophy grade today with 140 accubonds. I measured a few and the factory ammo is seated to 2.864". I then pulled one of the factory bullets. The 140 accubond bullets are .061 shorter than the LRAB. I am going to try seating the LRAB to 2.925 and give that a try.

Since you are limited to mag of 2.950ish I'd get then at 100 off the lands and retest. I am not a fan of that bullet but generally they work ok at 100. I do run them at 2.950 coal my PRC's with 56.5 rl26 and they shoot fine

I haven't run a seating depth test on my 6.5 SAUM but I should since I'm not satisfied with the groupings. The ABLR in my 338 likes 40 to 50th jump.

Not a PRC, but the best seating depth so far with the 142 ABLR in my 6.5 CM Christensen Mesa is a full .100 off the lands. In my rifle that equals an OAL of 2.80"

I'd echo the guys that are saying keep seating deeper.

Nosler suggests starting 0.075 from the lands and going deeper if needed. They like jump. Can be finicky in some rifles

Is that suggestion on or in the box? Maybe I just missed it. It's fairly unusual to start a cup & core bullet that far out. Either way I'll give it a try since I already have the bullets.

I don't hardly bother with starting them any closer than 75 off.. My Mashburn shot decent there with the 175 but really perked when they were .1 off the rifle. Literally one holers at 100 and under 2" at 400 have been pretty consistent.

Even though they are a cup and core, they're bonded and as with most bonded bullets I have seen them really perform better with some jump, like a mono and a non bonded bullet generally does better up close. Not a hard and fast rule, but it has been working for me..

I called Nosler a few years ago when I was having issues with this bullet. That was their suggestion and it worked for me.
I also learned that the Partitions like to be closer to the lands. If you're not getting the accuracy you want, they suggest trying a faster burning powder. Just little tips you get when you make a call to them.
